Cant believe torres is going to chelsea. Not confirmed yet but if he does..well..the strike duo of drogba and torres is pretty frigtening and we have to play them twice.

In other news, totally off-topic, pretty pissed off Del rio won the royal rumble.

That means Torres is indeed moving. But seriously..Carroll? 35 million? If caroll is worth that then hernandez should be 50 million. No wonder Fergie talks about value in the market.

ESPN is saying Newcastle have accepted it (probably the easiest decision they've ever made).

Which I guess has to mean that F9T to Chelsea will surely happen.

It'll be interesting to see how well 'Pool operates with two new strikers.

Apparently we were close to getting Charlie Adams. Man, how badly we could use him in the middle of the field, rather than Carrick or Gibson. He'd be amazing to replace Scholes.

I don't rate him that highly TBH. He's on the same level as Carrick, Barry etc IMO. He's very good, but not worldclass. Not to the same level as Gerrard Lampard, Fabregas or Scholes. He's 26 this year as well, which means he won't improve that much.

He has done real well setting up the strikers he has. Who knows what would happen if he had Rooney, Berbatov and Hernandez. I think he would be especially good for Hernandez, since Adams likes to make big long balls to strikers and Hernandez loves those. Apart from Scholes, none of our central midfielders can make a good long pass over the top of the defense.

The Charlie Adam hype has definitely gone into overdrive since the ManU match, but he is a very good player. I personally think he would've been perfect for Liverpool, and if they don't get him, ManU isn't a bad option for him. He'll need to improve his fitness levels though, a ManU player should be able to play the full 90 minutes without a major decline in performance and he's not there yet. The talent is there, though.

Two brilliant goals in the first half. VDS sends a 60 yard ball down the middle of the park, Rooney takes it down perfectly and smashes it home without breaking a sweat. Perfect cross by Nani on the second goal and another nice cool finish by Wayne.

I want to see more goals in the second half, hopefully Rooney will get a third and get his confidence rolling.

Couldn't watch most of the game because I couldn't find a good english stream. Finally had to watch a chinese stream :( I missed both goals but watched on replay. Good team work. Nice to see Rooney score again.

Regarding Charlie Adam, yeah I agree with his long balls. His long balls impressed me. But he's still nowhere near the level of Scholes. At 26, I wonder how much more he'll improve. Maybe he'd flourish in a bigger team. He'd still be a good addition. He would also push Gibson down to the reserves which is good (Y)

I really like Adam, but I agree with you. I think Carrick would be doing the exact same thing if you put him in Adam's place.

Not really, Carrick is more about the short-passes and keeping posession, not getting the ball forward quickly, like Adam. I'd say Adam could replace either Carrick or Scholes, since he, too, is a good at keeping posession, but Carrick doesn't have his vision for spraying passes forward.

Btw, the whole he's 26 so won't develop line of thought is very FM-like. He'd develop and improve if he came to ManU, even if he's 30. You just won't see him change his style all that much, but that's not what you want, you just want him to improve what he's doing now.

I guess you're right on the style difference, but maybe my larger point was that he's about Carrick's level of quality which is to say he's a very good player, borderline international for a top nation, but he's just not quite world class.

And you're totally right about improvement. I doubt his technique or physical ability would improve much, but his fitness could get a bump and his understanding of the game would jump tremendously, which is really the most important thing for a central midfielder.

EPL Statistics:

Rooney:
Games: 15
Goals: 4
Assists: 10

Nani:

Assists: 12

Berbatov:
Games: 21
Goals: 19
Assists: 2

Chicharito:

Nani has been the key man this season. A lot of Berbatov's goals came from him.

The biggest bargain

Jim Lawlor must be a very happy man. Not heard of him? Well, he’s somebody all United fans should be thanking at the moment. It’s Jim, you see, who’s responsible for luring Javier Hernandez to Old Trafford.

Lawlor is United’s chief scout and he spent several weeks in Mexico this time last year watching Chicharito play for Chivas. Jim recommended that the Reds sign the young striker and the deal was done in April.

At the time, the transfer was met by a shrug of the shoulders from many United fans who’d never heard of the player. But the World Cup changed all that. His strikes against France and Argentina suggested United had unearthed a diamond.

The big question was, could he adapt to the physical demands and the helter skelter of English football?

After 11 goals in 26 appearances, the answer is a definite yes. He had one chance at Southampton on Saturday and he took it. It was the finish of a natural born goalscorer. And his arrival as a substitute at Blackpool last week had a huge impact on the game. His equalising goal was magnificent – a triumph of technique and nerve.

Hernandez has now scored in all competitions: Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carling Cup and Community Shield. Not bad for a first season at OT.

It was reported United signed him for somewhere in the region of £7million. What would he be worth now? Especially given some of the crazy prices being spent on a quite frankly astonishing transfer deadline day.

Chicharito has gotta be one of the most intelligent players. He is a lightweight, frail looking guy but he uses his speed and positioning very intelligently to compensate for his strength.

I'd rather much have him on the bench than someone like Anelka. He's not one who's gonna complain of not playing every game as well. His goal per minute ratio in the EPL is the 3rd best right now. First is Berbatov, then Van Persie, then him.

Anelka has 14 goals and 3 assists in 20-odd matches, playing in a role that has him spend most of his time linking play and dropping into space on the flanks and around the area. I don't know what your obsession with Anelka is about, but you should watch him play. As good as he might be at the poacher role, Chicharito is not on Anelka's level. He's also never complained about match-time at Chelsea, whereas Chicharito is not complaining NOW (as a young, recent arrival on a, basically, 3 men for 2 spots rotation).

He's definitely wowed everyone, but you need to chill with the hype, he's not THAT good.

And btw, Drogba's on a 11 goal, 11 assist on 20-odd match run. This, in what is considered a bad season for him, you know, playing through malaria and stuff, and it is despite playing with a midfield that lacked any invention for most of that period.

Hell, even Kalou and Malouda have a 10 goal, 4/5 assist run.

It's very easy to hype your own players, you know.

"Obsession"? I'm just using Anelka as an example. Thats it! I think Anelka is brilliant, but he's very similar to Berbatov, so I'd rather we have a different type of player on the bench.

I never said Chicharito is better than Anelka. I just said that I'd rather have Chicharito on the bench because he's the kind of player who could completely change a game when coming on. How many winners did he score this season? I doubt it another player would do that no matter how good he is. Hernandez is a super-sub type of player. He is more effective coming off the bench than starting a game.

Hah, what a striker Vidic is :innocent_smile_1:

If I saw how he went to hit that ball, I honestly thought "oh ****, this ball will be flying over the stands..." but he slammed it in like that's what he gets paid for.
