How reliable is that Twitter page? I don't think we need him anyway. He's more of a defensive midfielder and we're covered in that position. He's not that young as well at 27. We have Fletcher, Carrick, Gibson and Hargreaves (...) in that position. What we need is a attack minded central midfield to replace Scholes. My ideal choice would be Sneijder but no way he's coming.

If we keep on playing a 4-4-2 sytem then the Sneijders and Ozil's of this world won't be needed as they can't play in a paired midfield combo. These players need teammates whom will do the defensive work for them. Both players shined last season (at the world cup) in a 4-5-1 system. Besides we have already got Bebe, Cleverly etc whom will get their chances in the coming years, so those rumours has sailed. I have a feeling that we might see a lot of the classic United 4-4-2 play this season, especially with the amount of strikers we have at the moment.... If the rumour about Meireles is true then I guess it might be a replacement for Hargreaves....

You'd better behave yourself this time!
with 3-0 up yesterday, it would have been great to even have macheda on...these lads need games now, more foten..iguess against fulham, owen will be back..so there goes kiko's chance..
if he needs to really shine now, he needs atleast 15 starts as a minimum this season

cleverly is surely gnna be top notch...cant wait to see him either..

Looks like Ozil is headed to Madrid anyway, supposedly his father is saying that even if they don't get a deal done now that Ozil has already agreed to move there next summer for free.

Ba we don't need them, we got Scholes. The rest are amateurs in comparison :) And when he retires... Cleverly. Now he just needs to play some games and live up to my hype :innocent_smile_1:

Scholes was masterful yesterday, but to be fair, can you expect him to turn in that type of performance every week? Also keep in mind we were playing a very weak team...

Also, I thought Cleverley played mostly on the wing?

Ozil has just signed for Real for, so that definetly puts an end to that rumour.

That is a shame...what was the transfer amount?

Sounds like it was about 15 million Euro, or just over 13 million pounds.

I can't believe they would let him go for that little. I thought it would be at least twice that, if kids like Silva and Balotelli were going for around 30.

kids like Silva? David Silva is 24 ... Özil is 21 ... and once he decided he wanted to go to Real Madrid, Bremen either took what Real offered, or Mesut would have gladly signed a pre-contract for a Bosman transfer to Madrid for next year ...

Well, yeah, I guess Werder were in a bad spot because of his contract. However, if I were them I think I would've just kept him and hoped that he helped the team get into Champion's League again next term, because that could generate as much, or even more, money as selling him.

As for Silva...just my opinion, 24 is still a kid.

Cleverly mostly plays midfield and is also good in defence. Although that's a waste considering how well he goes forward.

Scholes, always plays well. The problem is he cant be expected to play every game, him and giggs.

SAF must have a plan since its painfully obvious what we need. Logically if SAF's not chasing players he must have something planned for those positions in question.

I'd guess he plans to blood players like Cleverly in, off the experience of the old guard. THe problem is things like that take time. He's either looking to seasons ahead or knows the careful mix of youth and experience has what it takes. The new batch of fledglings.

fair enough ... you just made it sound like Silva is younger than Özil ...

Champions League qualification isn't a guarantee, even with him there ... and they'd have had to pay his wages and bonuses for another season while taking that chance ... this way they've saved on the wages AND gotten a reasonable sum as well ... it's what made most sense ...

Ozil under 15 million pounds is a steal. I'd think that even with our cash strapped situation we would have been able to put up that amount from somewhere. I guess he was talking about wanting to play in Spain all summer and right now with Mourinho in charge, Real Madrid is a safer bet than Barcelona.

If Ozil were to play in our 4-4-2 formation he'd have to defend, which he hardly does. Thats why I feel he would've played more on the left wing (Giggs replacement) if he came. Unless we played 4-5-1 with Rooney upfront. By the way have you guys forgotten Anderson? He certainly has more talent than Cleverley and he's just 1 year older than him. If he keeps improving he could be the next Scholes by 2-3 years. Only thing lacking with him is goals.

Anderson's quality on his day, brilliant creativity and excellent pin point passing. A lot like how Scholes is these days.

Cleverly offers something different, potentially the goals Scholes used to score. He really likes to get forward. Should make a great pair in the future.

Ozil is a very good player, but I think he's getting a little overrated. His presence certainly doesn't guarantee Werder Bremen any success, and I don't think anyone has called him Germany's brightest talent until this summer.

Still, it seems odd that SAF would rather spend that money on a homeless chap who plays arguably your deepest position.

Does SAF still play Anderson on the DM role? Sorry to point out the obvious but he's an attacking midfielder, playing him out of his natural position and forcing him to defend seriously is a waste of his talent..

I remember his days at Porto, he had enormous potential, better than Nani for instance...

Anderson hasn't been playing in a DM role perse, SAF wants to make some sort of dynamic box to box/ playmaker kind of midfielder out of him. Anderson has one of the best dribbles of the squad, he can be one of the driving forces going forward during counterattacks for example. He showed it during his first season with us when he bossed Gerrard and Fabregas, but never showed it again. Besides his dribble, he also has the physique and attitude to play in the centre of a 4-4-2 system. He doesn't need anyone to do the defensive work for him. That's why it looks like he has been playing as a DM, but to play in that position you need to be able to defend aswell. He has been unlucky in terms of knee injuries, car accidents and such, but he surely has the potential to show that kind of stuff on a constant base, well atleast I hope he does. Because of the instant change in Nani's game, I still have high hopes for Anderson.....
