Ferguson wanted to have Scholes and Carrick passing Liverpool around tiring them out, since he knew that they will be chasing the ball. But he should have brought on Anderson at half-time because Scholes Carrick partnership was not working.

It seems like you gotta be a certain **** standard to be an EPL referee. Owen was behind Carragher, the ball was behind Carragher, Carragher was the last man by far and he only gets a yellow for a foul? Evra got a yellow for one trip on Torres and one trip that Torres tripped himself. We were robbed of a point today. Not that it was deserved all that much, seeing how we couldn't put 5 passes together and I was expecting a loss.

I know its hard to digest but do you seriously think Carragher being sent off would have changed the game? It was in the 87th minute. We were down 1-0 and were playing badly.

Anyway lets move on. Lets hope this loss shakes the team up and encourage under-performers AKA O'Shea, Ferdinand, Rooney etc to up their game.

I f*cking hate the stupidity of the referees in the English game - I also f*cking hate Liverpool, especially losing at Anfield.

Fergie very carefully layed into the referee on MUTV. I also had to laugh at the poster at Anfield in the corridor "The home of the European Cup 5" I would suggest if any ground could make that claim it would be the Bernabeu - Real have won twice as many!

Anyway the good news is, at least Rafa is still in the job (Y)

You are right, probably not. But nevertheless, it was a blatant red card, and its decisions like this that should allow managers to have a go at referees. Because of you are ****, then you are ****.

Yeah that really does annoy me, it's like the FA are saying "how dare you criticise us" Perhaps public criticism might improve the refereeing standards.

I still think that O'Shea is not United quality. I respect his loyalty and he's quite versatile and defensively stable but he rarely brings anything to our attack. Whenever he gets the ball two things happen: a) He makes a backpass and kills out attacking momentum. b) He makes a forward pass that is always intercepted by a defender. He has a sort of clumsiness characteristic that makes him frustrating to watch.
I'm absolutely not blaming today's defeat on him but I'm tired of his weekly mediocre 6/10 performances.

Regarding referees, no wonder managers are having a go at them. They aren't producing consistent referees who are capable of making correct key decisions (most of the time) nowadays. Instead, the FA is further shielding the mediocrity of some referees by penalizing anyone who speaks out against their performances. I think that referees should earn the "respect" not take it for granted.

Surely you guys haven't just realized that by now. Referees have and always been mediocre. Its rare to have a referee who is consistent week in week out.

If Fergie just kept his gob about Alan Wiley's fitness after the Sunderland game maybe it would've been a different story refereeing-wise. Who knows.

I'm beginning to think that several of our current squad are not up to the United standard. We should be dominating games like this - at least having a go back, but there was practically nothing yesterday. Too many times now I hear "we just didn't get going" and it's beginning to bore me. For the money they are paid and the honour of wearing that shirt they should be up for every game, because there's millions around the world who'd sweat blood to be in that shirt.

If you can't get going for Liverpool against United then you don't deserve to play for the club. I've seen too many lacklustre displays this season and I'm sick to death of it.

too many lacklustre displays? We have lost twice in 23 games. Hardly bad odds. If you mean in general we haven't looked as good or played with the same ferocity, thats what happens when you lose the best player in the world.

Arguably were still doing better then last season though, not only with a better winning ratio but also not losing 4-1 to Liverpool.

Were doing just fine and with Owen back to the midfield in the not too distant future and the like's of obertan etc things are looking better then they already are now.

On paper, it does look impressive. If you look at the matches, however, we have been scraping results with a hell lot of nervy moments.

yeah I guess, been some tight games. I figure that's because we lost Ronaldo though. We can only improve as the new team Gels now.

Berba was starting too look really good. He's had a dip the last couple of games though. Seems to be getting frustrated a lot then giving up flapping his arms around. Noticed it a lot during the CSK game.

I am still quite confident for this year though, even after the Liverpool game. I believe we have quality players but it takes time for a new team to gel. Ronaldo's departure has forced Fergie to change the team's tactics. Players don't adapt to new tactics as quick as that.

By the way why the hell is O'shea constantly selected for right back. O'shea is a great backup but isn't good enough to be first choice. Rafael and Fabio seem way too injury prone... Fabio got injured again against CSKA. I was thinking maybe Rafael would emerge this season but he has been injured most of the time.

I don't know why Sir Alex can't understand that scholes is over. He shouldn't be the first team choice against top teams.

O'shea is a great utility player and I doubt there are many if any who are as adaptable as him. Able to play almost any position, he's a real asset to have. But, as you say why is he being played when there are better players for said position? I'm talking about Brown? he isn't injured is he? what a cracking player he was for us last season, I cant understand why he isn't playing more? There's also Gary, but he has been playing.

Scholes is a rare player. Not really looked at his stat's this season or paid much attention to the way he's playing. You just assume when scholes touches the ball its a touch of class and usually is. There aren't many with the vision he has. In fact I recall a few games this season where he's produced some wow moments. Perhaps he's had a dip in form, I've not really noticed but it wasn't that long ago that everyone was calling for Giggsy to hang up his boots when he had a dip. Now look at him now.

Scholes and Giggs are special, if there not playing up to the mark now, give it time. Players like them are game changers, irreplaceable more so then Ronaldo. We will have a torrid time for a period when Giggs, Scholes and Neville call it time. A worrying prospect considering there all of similar age. Remember what it was like when we lost Keane.

I don't think he's over yet. He still produces sublime long range passes that almost no other player on the squad is capable of.
