I think Rooney is just being rested. If I am correct another player was out for the same reason, I think it was Gerrard...

Edit: SAF said that Hargreaves could start training on first team level in three weeks time. Other news, Edwin is back and will start this weekend. Rooney though is injured and will miss the game (maybe the CL game aswell), he could be back for the Liverpool game next weekend...

SIR Alex Ferguson expects Owen Hargreaves to be making his first-team return in three weeks.

The Manchester United midfielder returned to Carrington last month after spending a year in the United States recovering from ground-breaking surgery on both knees to combat a long-standing tendinitis problem.

Hargreaves was initially accompanied by his personal physiotherapist before care was transferred to the United medical staff.

The 28-year-old is progressing well. And though Ferguson is bound to be planning a low-key return on reserve team duty somewhere, the Scot feels Hargreaves will be available again at the start of next month.

"Owen is doing a lot of good work now," he said.

"He is making great progress, which we are very pleased about.

"It is not a thing you have to rush because he has been out a year.

"We have to monitor it a bit more closely but he is giving us good signs.

"He should be back in the first-team level in three weeks from now, easily."

I wonder who will start along with Berbatov. Owen is out also! Macheda or Welbeck? Or only 1 striker? Giggs supporting Berbatov is another option... I'd prefer the last option.

Thats great news about Van Der Sar and Hargreaves!

ESPN is saying that Berbs might miss the game also because his girlfriend/wife/whatever just gave birth. But supposedly Owen is fit to play.

He's slowly adapting in the system... Getting better with every game. You can see he's trying harder. Running more and making more decisive passes. He was unlucky not to score against Bolton.

Btw, Liverpool lost again in the UCL... The first time they are losing 4 games in a row since 1987. I'm having a bad feeling about this weekend. Having lost 4 games in a row, I expect them to try their best to win. Should be a tough one but I'm looking forward to it eagerly. Can't wait to see United in action tomorrow (Y) Its been a long time.

I cant believe they lost again... They really struggle without some key players. I know its Liverpool but I'd rather see English team go through. Was looking forward to the British teams dominating again.

This is Liverpool's Cup Final on sunday - form goes out of the window. Beating us is practically all their fans can realistically hope for this season as the Spanish waiter has failed yet again. I seriously cannot call the top four this season - but as long as we're there (preferably #1) then I don't care!

Valencia is looking good recently, Berbatov revelled in his forward role and is looking the part now too. I was a bit dissapointed with Anderson though, I thought he'd really take to the advanced midfield role and get into the box more.

I'm getting more worried about this liverpool game. I was thinking before how well liverpool will play considering there previous defeats. They will come out fighting like the European cup final. Now to add to that, rumour has it Gerrard, Torres and Johnson could be fit.

And as if it couldn't get any worse two of our most prominent players in Rooney and fletcher are heavily in doubt. That's going to flip the two man team question right back at us 8|:innocent_smile_1:

Going to be a tough game, that's for sure.

I believe Fergie will play 4-5-1 though maybe with Berbatov as lone striker. He always seem to play 4-5-1 for big games like this one.

Di Maria is a very good player. I remember him playing for Argentina in Canada during the U-20 WC and he was one of the better players. As you said it's just rumours, it wouldn't make sense as we have Obertan, Tosic, Ljajic and Nani for the near future, if needed Welbeck can play as a winger aswell....
