I agree that there has been a big change. He has lost his tenacity. He is no longer the player he was before (Arguably best defender in the world at some point) but he is still good enough to be a starter for us.

Jones is an excellent young player but not good enough to be a starter for us yet. He still needs some experience and makes silly mistakes every once in a while. I expect him to be starter over the old guys in the next few years though.

You can afford to buy a central midfielder aswell as 14m Baines. You have to let Moyes have one of his old boys in the squad to help him spread his influence in the dressing room, and in my opinion you cant risk continuing with a fading Evra and Baines is an equal or better player anyway even if Evra remains at the level he was last season, which is by no means certain. I cant understand why any Man Utd fan wouldnt want this transfer to happen.

EDIT: If Mr Cole was fading the way Evra is I would take Baines at Chelsea in a heartbeat

Guardiola has admitted interest for Thiago Alcantara. If this goes through, Thiago would still face quite a lot of competition for CM there.

To me it doesnt make sense for Thiago to go to Bayern. The arguments for moving from Barcelona is to get more playing time before the world cup, and the arguments for staying is to stay in Spain and therefore get noticed more by Del Bosque and the selectors. If he moves to Bayern he wont be in Spain and he will face just as much competition for a starting spot.

What he really should do is go to Arsenal where he will really impress, get into the national side, then force a move back to Barca in three years time.

If we ever were interested in Thiago, we would have already payed the buy-out clause and he would have been on the plane yesterday. It's just the media. If you look at the quotes, no one has said United's in for him, just arnau-esque statements by journalists and their "sources".

We'll get Baines. We'll win the league and we'll get murdered in Europe, again, and continue attracting only players from EPL and players outside TOP 4 leagues.

It will be tougher this season. I am not that worried about City but more about Mourinho and Chelsea.
