Unless you grow up worshipping the club you support then your club is just another job, just another paycheck at the end of the month for doing something which is essentially a hobby. If someone offered me double pay to move to a rival work-place down the road I'd do it in an instant. We live in an era of capitalism; agents realise this and understand that their players are merely currency to be used.
It's not that I see it as negative, but to think that players owe a great gratitude to clubs and that they see loyalty in playing for them is mostly bullshit. Of course certain players love certain clubs and want to be 'career men' with them but the majority do not. Take Sterling as an example, a youngster growing up in London that is wooed by the big-club mentality of Liverpool. He has no love for them, no unmistakable desire to see out his days there, he is a mercenary who plies his trade at the top level. He will be willing to go to whichever club pays him the most (therefore giving him the best quality of life) and allows him to win the most trophies.
People bang on about City being a 'buying' club and merely spending Arab money. People used to say the same about Chelsea, hell, even Blackburn pretty much bought the league back in 95. People forget, that's what people don't seem to realise. I see young people every day who have no concept whatsoever that Chelsea have never been a 'huge' club, they only know Chelsea as being a superpower, they have no clue as to how they got to that status. City are only a few, embryonic years away from achieving this status, a whole wealth of youngsters will grow up seeing City and United as being pretty much the same.
For a whole crop of youngsters aged anywhere between 10 and 20, City represent a huge club; they've won the league twice in three years and continue to play exciting and generally successful football. Anyone who underestimates the power and lure of money to a footballer and their agent is seriously misguided.
