UEFA is a f*cking disgrace.

I agree with this new rule, but changing it now for Liverpool to fit in is a major farse.

em, who got left out? what the hell happened anyway? why did Fenerbahce get direct qualification, as a result of pool's inclusion?

like man city deserved to be in europe for finnishing like 9th or something :jambo: (N)

not all good news for me though :(

i know nobody hear cares about the SPL but this decision is an utter farce!! they came 9th (out of 12!!) barely avoiding relegation and lost a cup final!

also...by crusader

UNFAIR:

- Rules shouldn't be changed in middle of the season.

how can you say its the middle of the season?!?! :| :D

Cause rules never are changed if they can affect any team. Why? Cause ppl can think that UEFA is supporting Liverpool in this case. What could happen if another team wins CL, instead Liverpool?

Im sorry actually Liverpool is my second team and im glad they will play CL next season, but i think is not FAIR 100% cause at the beginning of this season there were no teams arguing about that rule.

see the question should be this. Would they change the rules if it was a team like Porto, PSV, Lyon, and so on if they were a situation like this?

i can tell u one thing that's for sure: HELL NO THEY WOULDN'T

now i dis think it was a stupid rule. Winner's should always be there no matter what, but they only changed the rule cuz it's Pool.

im certain they would. the only reason they changed it for the english fa and not the spanish is cos the english actually had the balls to stand up to uefa while spain just relegated zaragoza. i think its the right decision, dont think we deserved automatic qualification

no it's not it's even more serious, it's the end of the season.

Any decision made by this point should and would (if the UEFA weren't ****s)only affect the 2006/2007 Champions League edition.

In 2000 Spain FA didnt had the balls cause we had no chance knowing the final was 100% spanish (Madrid vs Valencia) so UEFA didnt wanted more spanish teams in CL.

The current champion should always defend its title.
However, nobody can ignore the fact UEFA made the decision a bit too late, and probably would have had different thoughts about it if it wasn't a top English club. Still, it's better to have a good decision taken late in the game than no decision at all!

The real question here, imho, is not whether the champion should defend their title or not, but rather non-championship winning teams qualifying for the CL.
I prefer things as they were in the past: you win your national championship, you get a ticket for the european champions league.
Seeing teams like Liverpool, who don't contend for their domestic title for god knows how long, playing in UEFA's greatest competition is what's wrong in this whole story.

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long
Yellow Card
......................and Arsenal and Real Madrid AND AC Milan AND Manchester United and Schalke AND Inter. You wana say Liverpool does not belong in the ONLY FOR "CHAMPIONS" LEAGUE...fine. But the same argument (6) must (6) be applied for other teams as well. :ewan:

Which part of my post led you to believe I was talking about Liverpool alone? Thought it was clear I was talking about all teams.
'but rather non-championship winning teams qualifying for the CL'; 'Seeing teams like Liverpool,'

you can't say anything for sure... of course there were interests from many people to see Liverpool there because they generate money but still you can't say they wouldn't do it if it was a smaller team (smaller meaning "not so financially attractive")

And you know they wouldn't ever change the rule if they didn't change it now... they didn't change it when Madrid won it...

yeah they didnt change it when Madrid won it, i dont see why they should change it now tho. it seems UEFA gave in to the media pressure, which is crap. the rule is there now tho, so lets just forget about all this. atleast they start in the first round of qualifications, which is a big hit on the team's preparations, so there is a minus to it.

I highly doubt if the same scenerio happened with a less celebrated Spanish or Italian club, theyd bend the rules like this.

What kind of roster will Liverpool have, seeing as theyre season will be starting in a few weeks now?

Thanks to this rule change the Romanian champion will now start CL playin the 2nd qual. round rather than the first so I'm all for it.
