i'm thinkin' about buying an LCD this christmas too.. i'm prolly gonna go for the samsung 17 inch.

btw samsung, NEC, viewsonic and sony are the best brands you should look for.

Samsung has an excellent reputation I'd think.

Objectively the Syncmasters are currently the best LCD's on the market in terms of price-performance. I have a Syncmaster 17".

Some people complain about eye problems and tiredness with LCD monitors - but I don't seem to have a problem. As long as you get one with a quick response time like Icey said, you'll be fine.

yeah, the syncmasters are good.. my sis has one. they make really good quality monitors but their lap tops are ****. i sold mine on ebay a few months ago.

Did you ever get the LCD? I have a Samsung 172t and it is simply amazing. I play loads of FPS games (BF42, HL,COD) and other demanding games (KOTOR). This LCD has NEVER let me down in terms of ghosting, trailing or latency. The colors look amazing when the room is both dark and lit.

I bought it 7 months ago for around $620 including shipping and CA tax from newegg.com. I was on their site and they had the 192t (19 inch model, but same specs) for around $650. Amazing buy!

One warning... u MUST run all games and apps in 1280x1024 rez! Make sure your vid card can handle this rez before u buy. you can run in lower rez but it will most likely look like crap.
