Saw it yesterday. I had too high expectations. The movie was a fun Scorsese type film but didn't have much substance. It was pretty predictable too.
Exactly. It is basically Casino but set on Wall Street rather than Las Vegas. Highly entertaining but not high art.

12 Years A Slave was a piece of cinematic art, and Nebraska was not far off up until the soft ending. American Hustle was a magnificent zeitgeist and character study. I actually probably rate Captain Phillips and maybe even Philomena above WoWS.

EDIT: Very surprised Greengrass did not get a best director nom - he told that story so well, and imagine the difficulty of filming those ocean storm scenes. Top class direction from a technical perspective.

Midnight in Paris - I waited 3 years to watch it and I regret it. This is the exact kind of film I fall in love with.

Lucy Liu, wearing a kamono and holding one of the most pristinely crafted unsheathed Hattori Hanzo swords in her left hand:

Now, the price for bringing up either my Chinese or American heritage as a negative is that I will collect your f************** head! Just like this ***uc********** here. So, if any of you sons of b&*%^&$***** got anything else to say, now’s the ******** time!

Watched both, they are hilarious.
You pulled a Xifio there, quoting yourself!

Yeah they are both good, but i think the one with Simon Pegg was way more hilarious. While i didn't think that much of the other one.

Her - I enjoyed it. It was pretty good although the exposition and resolution were better than middle of the film. Very interestig story and Scarlett was very good, I think they should have a ategory for voice doubling.

Spoilers: I did think it was a missed opportunity, story-wise, to not have Samantha upload his consciousness which had been established as a possibility, and see how he interacts with himself or how he struggles with that notion. Still good film though, and I guess another 15 minutes would've made it too long.

Also, I don't get why Leo gets a nom but Phoenix doesn't.

And Scarlett was a brilliant choice, to think it wad originally someone else. It would have actually been worse if we had gotten to see her. And it's a credit to tthe film that you really didn't miss a person's presence. To the film and Phoenix, which is ehy he deserves a nom more than Leo. He didn't even have a costar to interact with.

Saw it last night and I didn't know what to think. I mean it was a good film but I just couldn't get over the fact of how much of a pussy Theodore was. Also how to me it paralleled to the players of MMOs who fall for chicks from other countries whom they never meet.

The scary thought is that I don't think we're too far from a similar technology. We just need some whacko to marry Siri and we're off...

Team Captain
I think Leo played the role perfectly, it's just that I don't think the role was that great and "challenging".

The flying machine - The premise is good and the first part of the movie is amazing, they did a good job matching up the music and the plot but the second part is horrible, really bad acting, poor dialogues, bad directing and cinematography. But if love Chopin's music as much as I do, it's still enjoyable.
Lang Lang sucks.

Amadeus is brilliant. Very entertaining and brilliantly directed by Milos Forman. I love some of the stories surrounding the film's production in Prague. They were filming on location in a theatre where some of Mozart's operas premiered (Don Giovanni most importantly) and the extras on location are actually members of the Czech secret service keeping an eye.

One of my favorite scenes in any movie:

Yeah, that scene was such a masterpiece, Mozart's downfall blended perfectly with his Requiem and his perpetual genius with Salieri's ambiguity, it was just perfect.

Tim's Vermeer - for people interested in the works of Vermeer and a great question of art history, a monumental film, for those who just want to see an amazing (if slightly obsessed rich man) pour his heart and soul into proving a point, a great watch.

3 Days to Kill - dont be put off by the shit trailers, a script by Luc Besson means this is a highly entertaining and in many ways surprising film, though dont expect any espionage realism hear, and you do have to put up with some rather corny "family bonding". Still, surprisingly good.

I can't understand why everyone's so excited about "American Hustle"? 10 Oscar nominations? That pretty much shows that these awards are a joke like they've always been.

The movie itself? I struggled to find a genre for it, everyone seemed to be overacting except for Christian Bale. I've seen pretty much the exact same story in many movies. Jesus christ even "Matchstick Men" is better than it, if you are looking for some conmans' movie.

And their makeup or whatever you call it? It just looked ridiculous. Like god damn clowns dressed up for a masquerade. I saw the "twist" coming from a mile away. Everytime i saw Jennifer Lawrence's character bitching i wanted to turn it off.

Overall it was OK, nothing special at all. I'd never watch it again. I never like to rate movies, but this is just 5/10. Loved the soundtrack though. :P
