Kalou sold to investment company; headed for Benfica?

This deserves its own thread because of the possible impact this has.

According to a Dutch paper, Feyenoord sold the transfer rights of Salomon Kalou--behind his back--to a Portuguese investment company called "Soccer Investments and Representations" for 9 million euros. Now, that company wants to "lease" Kalou to Benfica. They have a 5-year contract ready and will pay his salary + a lease-sum. The company wants to re-sell Kalou for a much bigger amount in a year or two.

Because of FIFA rules, Feyenoord will still have to reach an agreement with Benfica and Kalou has to agree also of course.

If this is true, then we're entering a new age of football transfers. This not bad actually, we'd see more and more good players be able to go to small teams who can pay 'rent + wages' for the player, as opposed to huge transfer sums.

when there's smoke, there's bound to be fire. it probably was a possibility, but fortunately denied by the Feyenoord board.

as for the rent thing, it looks like it will complicate transfer rules very much. that's bound to bring up trouble.

It looks more and more like this report is a bunch of BS. Kalou doesn't even want to leave Holland because he wants to earn his Dutch citizenship (so that he can play for Oranje (N))

Don't even see how that would be possible, without the player knowing about a deal. A player is a worker and his employer can't sell him to some other company without that worker agreeing on it, because that would be called slavery, which is illegal now i believe.

He will arrive in Lisbon on Friday according Dutch and Portuguese papers. Benfica's GM was in Amesterdam on Thursday and Friday to close out the deal.

But I will wait till he puts on the jersey, we already went down this road this season and still didn't get our foward yet :p

Uhm, they didn't sell the player himself, just his transfer-rights. If Kalou doesn't want to go Benfica, there will be no deal.

it's in portuguese, basically it's says that the deal is almost closed and Feyenoord sold Kalou to an investiment company for 9 million euros and now he will be loaned to Benfica for 1 or 2 seasons. PSV wanted him too but Erwin Koeman rejected see Kalou in a rival team.

it looks like he wants to help his brother :p .

i only believe when i see him with our shirt.

"A Bola" confirms this as well. In today's edition they said that same dutch newspaper will post on tomorrow's (Monday) edition the proofs that lead them to announce this.

What's the hype around this ? This has been done lots of times recently.

Dirk Kuyt also was sold to the same company but only 50% of his pass, so he will be on his way out somewhere else but Benfica were looking for a foward also. :o

Combined last season the 2 players had 69 :hump: goals in competitions.
