Inter Milan Thread [2005-2006]

What can you do about it really? It's not like they cancelled because they didn't feel like going. Anyways, the Inter management has been talking and they are trying to find a solution.

I'd like to add the words of Adriano10 from XT forums, I think he says this brilliantly:

"As I said, I can understand the Londoners' reaction to this.

Since City London is at a time of Hightened Alertness. It would be inconsiderate of Inter to further burden the local public services. Naturally, more security are needed when a football team arrives.

People may be asking if such an event of preseason friendly is indeed necessary for security institutions to spend time on them, while the city is in mourning as well as in anger. Focus to target the attackers would be only Priority.

While Inter will not be in a position to REFUSE security. The hinderance will not be necessary. Inter will have to take care of Inter.

I fully support the cancellation.

May the Londoners succeed in their efforts to eradicate and arrest the culprits."

In the mean time, Inter wins again.

Great to see Pizarro fitting in with the team so well.

Not an admirable decision on our part in my opinion. The club should be more sensitive to its fellow footballing brethren and to the world community at large against terrorism. I mean, Italy was as much a potential target for Al Qaeda as the UK before London was struck repeatedly, you know? Sit down the players who are adamantly against going, try to convince them otherwise, and if you're unable, just simply have them replaced. Imagine if this awful catastrophe was switched and (God forbid) some cities in Italy were struck instead of London and teams all of a sudden started distancing themselves from those parts and rejecting any offers to play there? I mean, I'm sure some prominent events have been held in the UK since the first bombings? It's not like we'd be landing right at the heart of the disasters and parading our team bus in a motorcade across it in show of defiance, you know? If the other teams feel save enough to play, the fans feel it's safe enough to play then we shouldn't desert the poor bastards like this near the last minute and all, man.

Were gonna look like a bunch of totally vile and cowardly ****s if we get dealt an English team or two in the UCL group stages with the risks of attacks still being the same as they are now and we somehow find (prestige, money) a way to justify making those trips.

Inter's England Tour Back On
7/24/2005 3:29:00 PM
Inter Milan will once again embark on a four-game tour of England, having been persuaded against cancelling due to security fears.
The Italians were heavily criticised for "giving into terrorism" after they decided not to make the trip in the wake of the terrorism outrages in London.

However, sports minister Richard Caborn spoke with his Italian counterpart Mario Pescante and the outcome is that tour will go ahead.

"Pescante spoke to the Italian football association and they made representations to Inter," said Caborn.

"They came back saying all things being equal the tour would be on this morning. They’re flying out on Sunday."

Inter will face Leicester, Crystal Palace, Norwich and Portsmouth.

Excellent news, common sense prevails. :) Glad that Palace get to celebrate their centinery year with a friendly against a club with the quality of Inter.

lol Cambiasso, J. Zanetti and Adriano just returned from their vacations this week so they are still in training. Cruz has been playing in all the pre-season matches so he's getting a rest. Good to see Solari, Pizarro, and Wome getting a lot of playing time to get familiar with the team and tactics.

I can't wait for the season to start man

ps: An "Insider" says Figo is about to sign with Inter....The source said. "believe me, he's at Inter"

I think VDM not being in roster might signal the end of his Inter career (N). And where is King Recoba to unleash his fury on all the mediocre English sides?

Figo said today he's willing to fight for his spot at Real and see out his contract.

but if you put on your 'bullsh*t detector glasses' it really means neither Liverpool, Inter or any other half decent club is willing to pay his $7M a season wages.

Recoba was the captain a few days ago when Inter played Bolzano a few days ago. Not sure why he wasnt on the roster for the match against Bordeaux or now the tour of England.

Sucks that VdM probably won't be with Inter this season :(

Mikey about VdM missing the England tour: he missed it due to a muscular injury he suffered early in pre-season

Successful start to the English tour

Sources close to Vieiri have informed me that he assured his former club before his departure, that he'll suck infinitly more in a Milan kit facing us than he did in an Inter kit facing his current team.

D'awesome!

a free pancake to whoever opens a thread first when Figo/Samuel deals are official...

if Di Vaio plays in tommorows semi final intertoto game (likely) than he'll be cuptied rest of season. I say Choutos gets the 5th spot :jambo:

According to a lot of rumors, we could be seeing this wonderful pic on all sites by the end of the day...

Now Samuel, I'm definately interested in and I simply can't wait to see him pull on the Nerazzuri colors and lineup next to Cordoba on the field.

BUT I'm not 100% happy about us signing Figo. We don't need him. Stankovic has done great on the RW so far, and we've got Karagounis backing him up which is already perfect. Not to mention VDM who will have to be sold regardless, which sucks because he's got talent. Now we add Figo, and were packed again, and Karagounis might have to go which sucks. Unless Kily goes so that Stankovic is moved to the LW against Solari.

After we sign these 2, we still have to get a 5th striker, and there's a boatload of players to sell/get rid of (Coco, Davids, VDM, and possibly Kily/Karagounis)

Choutos has definately impressed me during the summer, cause I thought he was useless, but he's been scoring goals and playing really well (had a nice backheeled assist to Solari yesterday and he also scored a goal) I'd be perfectly fine with him as our 5th striker, IF and only IF, Recoba was sold so that we could get a REAL 2nd/3rd striker. Heck, the actualy season hasn't started and he's already injured YET AGAIN. The sooner we sell him, the better.

Figo is still class, as long as they dont spend too much money its a good deal.

Stankovic can play in any midfield position, so if VDM leaves it wouldnt really effect his playing time. I hope Kily is sold, he's useless from an offensive point of view in my books.

I dont think there's really a need for a 5th striker, especially as they have Choutos. Di Vaio would be a good buy, but I think an upgrade at LB is still are far bigger priority

A shame VDM will leave. I guarentee he goes to a club like Middlesbrough and plays amazing.

I guess your right about Stankovic, Mikey, because he's been playing next to Pizarro during the offseason. But once Cambiasso and Veron are back, I don't think he'll have things so easy. Though I guess he'll also have a shot at the LW, so atleast that way Karagounis can be kept.

Your right on Kily. He may have heart, etc, etc, a never die attitude, but he should be sold. I see him as excess. Better we try cashing in now.

BTW Moratti talked about signing a 5th striker in an interview he gave, so I think it might actually happen. Are you totally sure about Di Vaio being cup-tied if he plays tonight?

On the LB thing, that's not gonna happen. The club were really interested in signing Evra, but he turned us down because he wants to win with Monaco. Anywayz there's already Favalli and Wome (since Coco is on his way out). I really think we'll make a big LB signing next season, when both Favalli and Wome's contracts run out. I then think Wome will be resigned as a backup and we'll get a great LB.
