If you could change any football moment? (Just one)

Imagine you had the power to change just one moment / result in football history - which one would you pick? And how would it have shaped history?

For me it would be in May 1995. Manchester United needed a win to secure the Premier League Championship for a third straight time. Blackburn were at Anfield the same time and United faced West Ham at Upton Park. United battered West Ham but could not break through and despite a loss to Liverpool, Blackburn snatched the title.

If United had won that match, not only would they have won the Premiership, but also would have been bouyant going into the following week's FA Cup Final against Everton. (They lost, and Sir Alex has blamed the deflated mood in the camp)

So by changing the West Ham result, United could well have retained the Double.

The quarter-final in CL98. Juventus - Rosenborg. Change the score line and we would have been in the semi-finals, that would have been just incredible for a team consisting of semi-professionals with normal jobs beside playing soccer. And maybe Juventus never should have been there at all? There were so many rumours stating that many of the Juve players were doped at that time. I don't know if that was true or not, but I remember there was quite a lot talk about it both in front and after the match.

many to choose from ... many penalty shoot-outs to change for Ajax and Holland ... and maybe have Nigeria not score in Africa Cup final in 1994 after Litana gave Zambia the lead ...

but most recently, this one gave me a lot of heartache: Milan v Ajax, 02/03 Champions League Quarterfinal, 2nd leg, Chivu's slip in the 91st min ...

UEFA Cup Final 2004-2005, José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon: Sporting - CSKA Moscow

75 minutes, CSKA is winning 1-2.

Rogério hits the post, and in the counter-attack, Wagner Love scores the 1-3.

What would I change? Of course, Rogério scoring the 2-2, and probably changing the final winner...

Red card for Frings and a penalty for the USA in the 50th minute of the 2002 World Cup Quarters.

Second would be that bull**** goal for Shearingham in 2000.

Hope you don't mind, I'm going to take this in a slightly different direction.

Fall of 2006 was my last high school soccer season, and we'd had a toughish year, not playing nearly up to our potential. However, the last two games of the year, we started to (finally) find the goalscoring we had lacked all season. Due to the poor season, we had to play the top seeded team in the section tournament (which allows one to qualify for the state tournament).
With only two minutes left in the game, the score was 2 to 1, and statistically and on the field, both teams were dead even. Playing a Rooney-esque second striker, I got the ball on a through ball at the top of the 18 yard box. I had a wide open net, so I took two touches to set the shot, and I can still remember clearly the foot from the defender I thought I'd beat appearing from nowhere to clear the ball from me. Two minutes later, so ended the game and with it, for all intents and purposes, my football career (I don't have time anymore at college). God I wish I could have that second touch back. We could have gone through so easily that day, and had enough momentum to keep rolling right on through the tourney.

Dude that 1994 Nations Cup was the greatest bed time story ever told to me.
For me it would either be Nigeria vs. Italy 1994 World Cup Second Round (They lost the whole thing within the last minutes)....
Or 2006 UCL Final (I still have those what if... dreams).

I would make that chickensh*t ref in the Spain - Korea 2002 WC quarterfinal make the right call to put Spain into the semis.

haha ... don't tell me you weren't even born in 1994 to have seen it?! i was very young, but I have a pretty good memory so I remember it fairly well -- especially the weight of expectation before the match, and the tide of emotions during the final itself ... we were delerious after that early goal, but things went downhill from there on ...

I remember this too ... Roby Baggio, the star of World Cup 94, up until he skied the final kick of the tournament ... in Zed, we were all supporting the other African teams of course ... late equalizer for Italy after Amokachi or Amunike had opened the scoring ... then a penalty winner in extra time converted by Roberto Baggio ... promised so much, but it ended up as just another "so close" story for Africa ...

I was born then but to young to remember anything, have really great video of it though.
And the 1994 World Cup, I know it might not have happened but if Nigeria had beaten Italy who knows they might have gotten the final.
This thread just brings pain and regret.
