Well, Shifty made a fair point, so I'll kick this off with the screen of the tactic I'll be using.

The idea is to play attractive football and still win some silverware, particularly (and more difficultly) in Europe.

The very fluid, more expressive 4-3-2-1 is meant to do just that, with two attacking wing-backs, a ball-playing defender (DCL), a deep-lying playmaker (MCR), two inside forwards, a trequartista and a complete forward hopefully doing their stuff right!

So far so good, currently half-time in my third pre-season friendly. I've won the first two 5-0, both with around 60% possession and 80%+ completed passes.

No transfer so far, I don't think I'll be making any, if I do it'll be to reinforce the right side of the attack. Wish me luck (H)

edit:

finished the 3rd friendly, this is really what I'm looking for:

First goal suffered, although I'm glad I scored it. :D

I hope this kind of performances keep up when things get more competitive; I keep telling them to prove me their worth to increase pressure and see what they produce

I know, he's my second choice for trequartista as you can see from the first screen; everyone's been getting the same playing time, and he's definitely got potential.

Suarez is obviously a machine.

friendly tournament semi-final; less possession but still great result:

tried the 3-4-4 tactic I set up for match prep in the last 20min of the game, not much noted...

I'm happy with this one because FCK are not that bad, and they only scored and got a spell of some dominance after I put on the substitutes (which for the first time I only did at the 70th minute).

And FCK's boss praised my tactical approach, which is always good (Y)

Probably my best game so far and against the toughest opposition. The result, and even the match stats, doesn't even begin to describe my dominance. Volkan Demirel was godlike saving all kinds of shots from us and Suarez and Enoh both hit the posts. Very pleased. Btw, this card bug is insane, it was a goddamn friendly and the ref was going crazy pulling cards.

First silverware of the season, current champions completely outplayed. (Y) Plus De Jong was missing, but Sneijder and Eriksen filled in fantastically.

Again, more than 60% possession. Pass completion still around 80%.

Just move to easy tackling. That's what I did; I don't think it hurt me, but it definitely cut down on a lot of the cards.

yeah, I did that, and it cut down the cards a little, but the card bug still crops up more often than is realistic ... better than nothing, true, but I'm expecting a fix to be released ...

Great win, although the offensive-minded approach sometimes brings disappointments like that late Auxerre goal. Still, I was without vdWiel and De Jong.

In the Eredivise, a draw against AZ in the first game and two wins against Twente and Herenveen puts me 5th so far. Also, brought in some talent to fill in the quality gap in the right hand side of the attack. :D

Hey Fili, play Suarez as an AM R Inside Forward and El Hamdaoui as poacher striker. Worked great for me.

Filipower

I sometimes do that, El Hamdaoui is fantastic, but so far Suarez as a complete forward is working better for what I want...

btw Max can you explain to me the reasoning behind loaning Aissati?

Xifio

The Von Trapps
in real life, persistent injuries have robbed Aissati of converting his undoubted potential, and has led to a visible drop in his quality ... he needs to find consistency and rhythm, and he may yet be able to fulfill his early promise ... Max can expand on the matter ...

Frankly he's pretty overrated in FM. In real life, like Xifio said, Aissati has barely played due to injuries and the fact that Martin Jol doesn't seem to really like him.

Come oooooon (H)

I put the Suarez-Hamdaoui combo we were talking about, mainly because Lucas is still adapting to the European (albeit Dutch) style of play, and I might employ it more often now. Although all credit goes to De Jong and De Zeeuw who were simply Barça-like on the midfield, providing most of the massive ball possession (H)
