Looks like city are very close to signing Bonucci for £50m. Disappointed he didn't go to

Guardiola's requirement for success is a solid squad to start with (i.e. the best team in the league by a mile) and be able to buy whoever he wants despite already having a solid squad. He will struggle in a team like Arsenal. He never had to rebuild a team, really. He always inherited the best squad of the league and add more stars.

Shifty is basing this on the fact that they came third in the league the season before guardiola took over. But just like city came fourth in the league last year and yet clearly had the best squad, these things do happen.

It's amazing how people use bullshit just to strenghten their facts. Yeah, they had Gago, Faubert and Drenthe (Lass was good, and he was one of their best in 08-09) but their attack was Robben, Higuain, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Raul and Robinho. Pepe, Ramos and Cannavaro at the back. Sneijder, Guti etc. Stop making that team look like Leicester.

That's like saying we didn't have a great squad because we had Edmilson, Oleguer, Ezquerro and Gabi Milito. We had a great squad on the paper, but most of those players had a lot of problems that season. Xavi and Iniesta weren't in their prime yet, Messi faced a lot of injuries, Eto'o wasn't very happy, Ronaldinho and Deco were busy with anything else but playing football. Villareal deserved the 2nd place because we were shit.

I don't care if they were trophyless for 2 years or not. Guardiola inherited the squad with the best players, end of story. Barcelona may not have had a good season but they still clearly had the best swuad comprising of puyol, xavi, iniesta and messi amongst others.

Masterpiece? It is so easy with the team he had. Man U's 4 men midfield was a mediocre Park, Giggs, Carrick and Valencia in 2011.
