I usually say "a LITTLE bit of lettuce" and then throw a little bit of spinach on there because it's healthy and makes me strong. Pickles, onions, and banana peppers to fill it out. No cheese, not toasted.

I don't know if they have this
in WI but they are by far the best subs I have ever had. Subway, Quizno's, Jersey Mike's, they don't even come close to how amazing Charley's subs are.

butter is still my choice for sandwiches, but if you want just something to go with bread, look no further than "doce de leite" (no idea what it's called in English...).

I've really gone off Subway in recent months but I remember their Mayonnaise being amazing.

However here I am referring to sandwiches you make yourself, most probably whilst stoned.

Believe or not fella a lot of people I know have been using this **** ever since some TV chef recommended it...... I cant understand it either.

Septics, tell me, when you have Peanut Butter on a sandwich do you need additional lubrication, or does the PB itself suffice?

That's why the jelly companies are still in business. Otherwise nobody touches that crap.

I always have butter/marge with it as well.

Don't really get the having "jelly" with it, they're completely different tastes! (I take it they mean "Jam", not the wobbly Jelly we have here in Blighty)

My sandwiches are pretty standard - some lettuce, white cheese (Mexican kind, **** any other kind), ham (good ham, I'm picky), avocado, sliced tomatoes (just one or two) and grilled. No mayo, that **** is gross.

Let's just make one thing clear. It doesn't matter how good the middle part is, if the bread sucks the sandwich sucks.

Bread is undeniably important - particularly the freshness. If the bread aint fresh, the sandwich is practically uneatable.

Another key factor which many people screw up is the contents to bread ratio - how many times has a sandwich been rendered disgusting by too much or too little bread?

That's not that simple. For me simple sandwiches are sometimes the best. I rarely have more than three of four different fillings, including the salad elements.

Here are some of my favourites, all including either Mayonnaise or Spread:

Hot minute steak, gorgonzola cheese, watercress and rocket on ciabatta bread.

Mature cheddar and cold turkey on farmhouse loaf or poppy seed beigel

Morbier cheese on Tiger Bread

Cheddar cheese, cold bacon and cajun chicken on farmhouse loaf

Cold chicken and pork based stuffing on farmhouse loaf.

Jarlsberg Cheese, really lean Brunswick Ham on a plain beigel

Hot egg, hot bacon, extra mayonnaise, real cress on farmhouse loaf

Cold sliced beef and really strong mature cheddar on wholemeal

Hot asparagus and salt on wholemeal
