Butter is the best, but only if it's been left out a while to let it soften up. Otherwise it's got to be marge for ease of use.

You guys are insane - butter is too rich and so hard that it rips the bread apart.

I used to use exclusively low fat spreads (Flora to be precised) but I have recently developed an enormous penchant for mayonnaise, that stuff just adds zest to ANYTHING.

if not, peanut butter. amongst those choices, butter.

Peanut butter? I remember going to Portugal as a kid and bringing a jar of peanut butter because they didn't have it there.. everyone thought it smelled disgusting and that I was a freak for eating it. I guess salt cod and sardines smell better..

Right, this is a tough one. I've gone with butter as butter should be used in the most basic of sandwiches. However, for truly world class results in things such as Ham and Cheese mixes, mayo should be used sparingly instead.

Good thread Sir_Didier_Drogba, good thread.

I recommend low fat spread for you Sir_Didier_Drogba, or better yet no sandwich at all. Stick to same salted crackers. And by salted I mean my jizz.

I recommend my foot in your ass.

Mandieta6 I need you to assist me with something, I am informed that Spanish people have a diabolical habit of cutting a tomato in half and smearing the juice on bread as a form of lubrication - is this the case?

CSTR would also qualify to answer this question.

I must admit I am mighty partial to this ****, though I prefer Laughing Cow. However I'm so decadent I have both spread AND laughing cow.

Except he lives in Hawaii and has as long as I've known him.

I don't put any of that nasty crap on my sammiches. I only eat subs from Subway, so I use either the Sweet Onion Sauce, or the Red Wine Vinaigrette.

So you enjoy lettuce on bread?

If we're talking any ol' bread, meat, veggie, cheese sort of sandwich then you absolutely have to include a layer of mayo, not like a nasty half inch layer that turns the bread into slush but a nice thin layer on the top bun to bite into right before getting to all that starch and protein. Mmmmmmmmm I think I'm gonna go make myself a sandwich.

If we're talking a breakfast type sandwich then definitely butter (Y). Nutella on waffles is quite delicious as well.

Peanut butter is disgusting.

I usually say "a LITTLE bit of lettuce" and then throw a little bit of spinach on there because it's healthy and makes me strong. Pickles, onions, and banana peppers to fill it out. No cheese, not toasted.
