After spending countless hours re-installing windows and updating my very good machine, the game still randomly crashes to the desktop EVERY TIME I PLAY IT!!!!!!! The EA crew is stumped as to why it happens. Am I the only one? If so I guess I am cursed.

Same here. CTD every time. Never when playing a match though, always when browsing through menus.

Annoying and strange.

I had a similar problem

The game used to work, then it suddenly stopped working after I had been playing mulitplayer, but now it works again. I noticed that Fifa 2003 saves some files in a folder called My Documents, try to delete them. For me this worked.

Well I am sorry to say that I gave spent many hours looking on the fourms and talking to the reps and there is NO ANSWER for this. It seems that EAs game will not work on some systems, the problem is so complicated that not even EA knows whats going on. Bascially we all just wasted our money on a good game that was not tested properly. Only 11 months until the next one though!!

Specs.

1.5 Ghz Intel
Radeon 8500
512 Ram
Xp Pro
I suck.

EA chose to store files in that folder, because the game is optimised for WindowsXP, canging it has little effect.

You probably need new hardware, EA is raisng the bar of their game,s you need much more powerful systems to play them

WINDOWS ME isn't very good because it has caused many incompatible issues especially if you have had it for a while and you computer has many programs.

RAM is an issue to, 128Mb although recommmended, is not enough at all, starting would be slow, trust me, you need more. SD Ram isn't very good either, you need a sytsem that yuses faster RAM i.e. DDR RAM or RD RAM, for this if you may most likely need a new motherboard if you dont have. If your computer doesnt support this type of RAM its probably a P3 750Mhz or lower.

Direct X 8.1 goes without sayin. if you can get 9, then do it. Altho it wont make much of a difference unless you have a good graphics cards.

YOu need at least about 64Mb on your graphics cards, 23 though recommended is too smallbut the game will run, so be thankful.

Now I had a system
P3 - 733 Mhz processor
P3V133 ASUS motherboard bus speed of 133
128Mb RAM
24gb hard disk with about 300 MB free space.
DVDrive 40X CD 10 DVD
CD-ROM 36X
Direc8.1 fully installed
PCI128 sound card
Windows ME

for graphics card I hard after i bought FIFA2k3
first Voodoo 3 3500 [16Mb] - THe game never quite loaded, and the demo graphics were very poor, and after a while simply wouldnt load
then i tried A Geforce 3, 64MB - a black screen.

I tried everything under the sun, installed drivers, updated VGA bios, bought a new power supplky for PC, you name it, tried it, exhausted HELP section twice over, posed questions in Forum, even phoned ASUS and EA runining up a bill, they were all usesless, it didnt work.

THen i bought Geforce4 Ti 4200 128Mb. THe screen was no longer black...I could see the menus, but starting a match took 15mins on average, yes, 15 mins from when the 12th man starts bleeping.

I conclude the probblem was with windows, I went out to get myself some new hardware. Windwos ME detrioates with time quickly, and becomes unstable, especially if you have lots of software and programs old and new, etc and have been running it for a while...my core system was windows 98 from then ono it was upgrade versions.

my new system:
P4S8X motherboard, bus speed up to 533Mhz
Intel P4 1.7 GHz processor
24Gb Hard drive
128 DDR RAM 2100 [much faster than SD-RAM]
Geforce4 Ti 4200 12MB

now I had Windwos ME, and the whole system collapsed when trying to install it, so i had to get a new operating system.

WindowsXP Home edition.
256 DDR RAM as well

With this the game worked fine, no problems, starting took about 30secs on average. game looked nice

I then got a Geforce4 Ti 4600 on bargain price [basically for an extra £30 so i gave back the TI 4200 and installed this one.]

Game ran much better, 10secs loading time, the extra DDR RAM was needed.

so why didnt it work on my old system..pricnapply i thought the operating system, the Geforce 3 was powerful enough to run the game, and the PC fit the miniumn requirements just, except for the processor which was 733 MHz, wheras they recommended 750Mhz as standard...however it didnt work. the screen was black and somethin wasn't running, i head or read that the Geforce 4 series are optimally configured to run OpenGL and DirectDraw on DirectX 8.1 the Geforce 3's weren't and i had read some readers had had some issues, so this may have been the course.

My power requirements altho it was suggested by the support services, was never the problem, i had 200Watts then but bought 350W it turned out the power upgrad was useless , but with the new motherboard and Geforce4 , i'd have had to have had more than 200W anyway.

Well you have sen my new system, what are your current systems?

Mine is.
P4S8X Asus board - 533Mhz bus speed
P4 1.7GHz
256 DDR RAM 2100
Geforce4 Ti4600 128MB 4X AGP
DirectX 8.1
WindowsXp

every yr the graphics keep pushing the cards more and more.. so just because you played last yr fine, doesnt mean this year your card supports the lighting effects or whatever format of graphics they use.. so look at your card and how good is it, and if it doesnt have at least 64mb it wont run ok

i don't reckon i got a super duper machine:

PIII 1.2Ghz
256Meg RAM
ATI mobillity 16meg
20Gig HD

XP with direct X 8.1

In fact its a laptop and Fifa runs sweet although I play 640x480

only downside is i don't get names and numbers which is a pain...but don't stop me playing...

You don't need a great machine for this game - just one with the right setup....

Hey mine just freezes in the middle of the game and i can rarely play a full game without this happening. this only happens during the match.

this is my computer:
Intel pentium processer 3 1000mhz
240Mb ram
DirectX8.1
Nvidia GeForce 2MX400
C-Media Audio Direct Sound Driver
Windows 98SE

Does anybody know what is the problem?:(

I had similar problems only after I was itchy enough to upgrade to the newest detonator driver. Reverted to an older version and it worked fine again.

In retrospect, it's a bitch that Fifa 2003 is giving these problems when other games work fine. Don't get me wrong, I like the game but I think there's a serious QC problem with this release.

I agree there is no way customers should be expected to be able to afford the top of the line hardware for every fifa release.
But as someone else said, fifa doesn't require the best of the best hardware it's just a picky little bitch about what configurations it will run on. Which is a poor effort on EA's behalf.

It seems you need to either have alot of spare cash to throw around on new hardware, or be a rocket scientist to work out what exact hardware configurations work for this game.

All in all it's just disheartening that the specs that are outlined on the box and in the readme promote knowledge of the hardware needed to run fifa, yet they seem to provide no bar for what you actually need to run the game.

For those unfortunate souls like myself I guess all we can do is pray for a fix/update sometime soon. But for now I guess i'll settle for kicking my soccer ball against the garage door :rockman:
