AI.

The AI is a joke.
Paul, I spend an hour globally editing ratings, and after that I'm good for the year. FIFA plays a very good game after edits, varies its attack, takes plenty of long shots, plenty of cards and fouls, etc. That's without even talking about how line slider settings can dramatically alter CPU attack/defense AI to make teams play differently.

The same is not possible with PES. Basically, many of the player ratings in PES are simply for show, and have zero affect on actual gameplay. PES GKs with ratings boosted to 99, play as poorly as the worst rated GKs in FIFA. And there is simply no way to increase cards and fouls, the programming does not allow for it even with editing. Foul AI is non-existent. And of course no sliders so stuck with Konami's anemic default gameplay.

I am not saying that editing ratings is ideal, but at least with FIFA it is possible to edit the game and create a very pleasant, very fun football simulation.

Well after playing both PES and FIFA all year, I would say PES is the game unsuspecting people need to be aware of. From the PES gameplay videos I've seen, it looks like Konami is releasing the same game as last year, which was like the game from the previous year. PES just does not progress. At least FIFA's gameplay, animations, AI, etc. are all noticeably better every year.
Maybe so, but PES obviously doesn't get as much attention as FIFA. There is a lot more people to disappoint in terms of who's pre-ordering it at the moment. I agree with you on the animations and AI, but gameplay is only going back and forth.

If anything says a game is broken, its this very sentence.

There is a global "gameplayattribdb" that does this essentially. EA edit it every year and with every patch. I wish we knew how to reverse engineer that.

I am not defending PES here. It has very big issues of its own when it comes to GP and AI.

Okay, sure. But here is the thing as I see it: with FIFA you will get a okay game that can be customized to play a good game of football. With PES you are getting a game that is stuck in a PS2 gameplay timewarp and has zero potential to be made better via edits and mods, other than kits and graphics mods to make it look better. FIFA 16 might not be worth the money, but it's at least worth something. Whereas I would say PES at this point mostly a waste of money. My take after playing both games two years running.

I worryingly agree with that.

Just wish EA would improve the career mode a little.

I've been editing PC sports games for 30 years Paul, EVERY game I've ever bought and played has required editing on some level. Some games are complete crap even after edits, FIFA is not one of them.

I agree, no doubt FIFA can be tailored to fit peoples needs. But again, the majority of dissapointed customers are from the FIFA side. Every one is going to buy FIFA in the end, so it's the one you have to watch out for. Like you said, PES never really put a great deal of effort into each installment (not saying EA do either) which is why most people avoid it all together

On a side note, FIFA on console is obviously more popular. Console gamers don't have the option to fix what's broken and they are the ones who will suffer, should they pre-order it before actually waiting for gameplay or whatever.

EDIT: Actually, I'm contradicting myself. Most console gamers just want FUT :\

You've been editing games since 1985? C'mon now. lol. That's 3 years before I was born.

Thank god they don't make these games just for consoles nowadays then eh? Then what would you do with your day?

... Back on topic.

Has anybody seen or heard anything new about FIFA 16 or are we waiting for the next convention? Over in PES land they are raving about new nets would you believe. Some people make me chuckle.

Late 1980s anyway, Links golf and the Hardball baseball series were the first.

Like I said, I have my FIFA edits down to a few tweaks that take an hour maybe, after that I'm good for the year. Used to spend months editing, not any more.

i completely agree :)

FIFA with edits has always been an enjoyable game since FIFA 10.

i first time i tried PES was PES 11. i mean the lighting was good but that was about it. Everything else was a mess.

comparing FIFA 15 to PES 15 is like comparing chalk & cheese. FIFA is always my first choice every year and will be also in 16 but this is the first year i might give PES a try because it plays well in two departments, UCL & NT football.

People cling on to the hope that PES will become the big cheese once again like in the PS2/PS1 days. PES was amazing for its time back then but FIFA really did pull ahead toward the end of PS2 / Early PS3.

So the version of PES you have played are not the best by far in comparison to FIFA. The best thing about PES back in the day was that you could play with 7 people on one PC or ps2 console vs the AI and the AI put up a great game!. Amazing times for me as a teenager playing PES with the mates. To be honest that is what made PES great. Online, licensing and fancy animations are king now and they have fallen way behind.

I wonder will it be long before another soccer/football game is introduced into the market. Rumors are saying 2016 will be PES's last. Whether or not this is true, I don't know.

FIFA didn't pull ahead by their own doing, PES just turned absolute shit when they switched to next-gen. Up to PES6 the series was fantastic, there was a huge focus on getting the AI to play realistically with special abilities you could add so the AI used players a certain way, attributes that determined how they moved off the ball and player individualism was just far more pronounced for the most part. Great single-player experience with the editing (ML was pretty bare bones though, one of the few things that improved on next-gen). There's a whole forum (pesstatsdatabase) that was dedicated to users figuring out how to make attribute sets to get the players to mimic their real life styles.

PES2008 was such a disappointment... they still haven't got close to that PES6 feel with the latest, and they keep removing attributes/traits so for some reason. Now we've just got FIFA where the SP experience is repetitive, every player plays the same, no distinctive decision making. It feels very fluid, the animation and individualism for the most part is great... but the AI in both PvP and PvAI is just lacking so much...

2K did the same with their sports games, tried to simplify them in an effort to keep pace with EA. Didn't work for them either. Gamers today don't want complicated, don't even want simulation necessarily, they want graphics and easy fun. I play FIFA because it's the only game we can edit and alter the game code to get it to play more simulation. I really hope that continues, my worry is EA is trying harder and harder to encrypt the game to prevent editing. The day they're successful doing that will be my last version of FIFA.

Gtx 650 is minimum requirement and 460 is recommended? I thought 650 came out after 460.

Edit: Nevermind. Figured it out by myself :P
