tl;dr Someone pays me a dollar and asks if I accept this type of service. What should I do?
If anyone found me on any Discord of FIFA modding servers, they probably know my view on the now common practice of hiding everything behind a paywall, or worse, a subscription to patreon and buymeacoffee.
Everything I did here was always intended to be free, for everyone, on the assumption that, from a legal point of view, it was all a grey area.
No modder can sue me if I do something with his work without his approval, because it's all Electronic Arts' intellectual property. If they want, they would close it all down.
In other words, it has led to a situation where everyone who learns how to open Blender creates an account on Patreon. Nowadays "supporting creativity" is just paying - preferably every month to get updates which often add loads of stuff or more importantly support the latest Title Updates.
Contrary to their claims, words of support, positive reception, sharing this and even thumbs up are no longer "supporting creativity".
To me, this is sick.
OK, but why am I writing to you about this? After all, my opinion will not change anything.
I have PayPal and have included a link to it in the description if anyone would like to help me fund the purchase of all the latest FIFAs from 06's upwards (I recently reached my goal). I didn't expect anything, I did it a bit for nothing. I mention this because it's probably the only way I received a deposit worth about 1 US dollar yesterday. For encouragement. In the attached message, the person asked if I accept requests to make faces for FIFA 14 for money. You know, you pay something there, you ask for a face for one footballer, I do it.
This is where I turn to you. Because do you think I should allow it? Would you accept it?
Right away I would have to point out that if I were to accept it already, then:
1. I would have to do it
2. the link to it would be public and free (no early access)
3. I would not be making a stall. I mean a predetermined price wouldn't be, as long as someone didn't go overboard.
4. Free requests would continue to be respected (although in my case, not fulfilling them was due to burnout and pure laziness). Keep in mind that I do a lot more stuff.
In other words - it would not be a service, but a gift for a donation. I don't see any problem with this model. Of course, this would all assume that I would be doing so. If you still want the money to stay away from what I do, I will inform the contributor as much as possible, because he asked about it.
There will be no shutting down, no Patreon serving as a shop, no exclusive content, nothing.
