haha, good times with hristo and josé ... i hope to wake up one of these days, check the headlines, and find: "Mourinho regresa a Barcelona" ... but as time passes, it looks more and more likely that he'll end up at Milan ...

alright, all this playing bad business has gone on far too long without clarification ... its a relative concept ... allow me to explain ...

players and teams in all sports are subject to form; for our sake, let's look at it from a team standpoint: when a collective purple patch is hit, what happens is exemplified by our performances from Jan. 2004 to May 2006; but when individuals forming a significant portion of the team hit a lull, the collective form dips ... so far, all this is pretty obvious ...

now, when that form dips, it becomes difficult to execute the "usual" plans and manoeuvres that call for precision play ... in a direct jab at Rijkaard, forcing the issue of playing "beautiful" football doesn't usually help, as it will only work to sap the individual and collective confidence of the players, and by extension the fans, the management, and the support staff ...

the opposite approach is to resort "playing ugly" ... but that does not mean going out of your to make sure that you look terrible; no, "ugly" is a relative term, and for a team of our pedigree, it simply means sticking to the basics, avoiding audacious passes, etc. (or manoeuvres, if terminology is to remain consistent) ...

this is approach recognizes that we are human, subject to form, and thus are keeping things simple ... it is not a long-term plan, but merely reflects a collective attitude that will allow us to maintain ourselves in a position from which we can remain in contention for silverware on as many fronts as our board's objective dictates ... then, once we re-hit our form, we would be well-placed to achieve those aforementioned objectives ...

so when we hear our players talking about being ready to "play ugly" in an upcoming match, I'd rather see them try keep things simple on the pitch than try to make sure their play is so discordant that it justifies another Andrés Iniesta post-match press statement about "playing ugly" -- something that is fast becoming too much of a norm for comfort ....

too right ... i just don't see why he keeps getting the start ... bench him, for use as a sub: he is young enough for neither his confidence nor his ego to take a hit, and would give him the chance to be exposed enough, and learn by observation the rest of the time ... i wouldn't start bojan either ... rather, i'd resort to a slightly modified shape for our existing formation ...

We really let you guys off the hook. Unfortunately I can't see us winning at the Camp Nou... you're as good as through.

i don't know about being let off the hook ... credit must go Víctor Valdés, who made some telling saves (or got enough of a touch to tip the ball onto the crossbar) ... i can't see why the return leg at the Camp Nou won't be just as close, especially if you take the game to us -- something i expect you to do anyway ....

Reserve Team
my 11 for today:
VV
Puyol Marquez Milito Zambrotta
Xavi
Gudjohnsen Ezquerro
Giovani Eto'o/Henry Henry/Eto'o

it's good game for Eric and Andres to save energy.
Marquez must to play with Gabi, and Gudjohnsen-Ezquerro in the midfield it's would be great.
zambrotta must to play in left,if Rijkaard has brain.

Visca el Barça,Visca Levante!

Seems ok, but seriously, Gudjohnsen and Ezquerro in the midfield? Could be a really big risk, which would be worth it if it succeeds, as there's a possibility to give a rest to the key players, but if it backfires, well, we'll lose points. Try out Deco or something.

official line up for tonight match

Valdes, Zambrotta, Thuram, Puyol, Sylvinho, Marquez, Xavi, Gudjohnsen, Bojan, Eto'o, Henry

btw, crosas is presented at lyon :)

woah, chelito delgado?! i did not know that happened! brilliant buy by l'ol!

btw, is anyone watching the match? that near-side linesman sucks major balls ... both eto'o and henry weren't offside, and the keeper definitely caught the ball outside the box ... ah well, we're winning comfortably, so i'm not gonna get too heated about it -- well, comfortable barring any more lapses from rafa in the anchor role ...

also, i want to know what the hell those blue and pink patches that henok goitom from murcia is wearing on his thighs and shins! is it physiotherapeutic? surely it can't be the latest fashion accessory gimmick?! if someone knows, let me know!

THE GOOD: marquez and zambrotta played really really well.... this is comforting given yaya is leaving us too; so we can a expect zambrotta, puyol, milito, abidal backline and marquez in yayas position so it all seems really good.... the other good news is seeing henry playing the way he plays theirs no dounbt in my mind that wing is his role in this team.... btw iam so surprise how well guddy plays in deco's position... if he keeps it up its his for the taking.

THE BAD: we are loosing etoo once again... this is gonna be a very big blow for us cause neither giovani or bojan are at taht kind of level.... man this is really frustrating we really need him at this critical times, the other bad news is that messi has for 1 or 2 more weeks afte we getting back.

THE UGLY: dinho... were tha hell is he ? who knows.

btw, i like that celebrating :) if someone can tell us more

dancing with exaggerated gyration of the hips is typical in Africa ... i suppose it has to do with celebrating "African style" ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations ...

zambrotta was very good, and the assist (+ clean sheet) capped his night ... marquez was defensively a bit dodgy initially, but the way he sprayed long balls from the back was top notch ...

nuestro favorito'o eto'o showed his worth again with a splendid performance and a two-goal salvo to bid us good-bye ... he will indeed be missed!

henry was finally employed more often on the left flank than down the middle, with eto'o filling that role ... i don't know whether that decision was henry's or rijkaard's, but i am glad they finally did it; henry was brilliant cutting from the left, or going out for the cross -- it was as if we had ronnie back, albeit without tricks and showboating, but (dare I say it?!) just as effective ... that's exactly what we needed to see from henry, especially with eto'o leaving ...

i'd like to note that gudjo played very well in that attacking midfield role too, and could even afford to come back and contribute some defensive clearances ...

as for ronanldinho and deco: apparently they are nursing minor knocks and weren't risked ... i'm definitely not giving up on ronnie ... i still think all he needs is some fitness that will allow to regain the acceleration that allowed him to execute those dazzling moves with such speed ...

comfortable win in the end -- i had expected 'comfortable' before the game, but didn't dare believe it would be so convincing ....
