Xifio;2457619 said:Barcelona's success during those dream years were down to the lack of strategy on Rijkaard's part, rather than the execution of complex attacking, defensive, and spatial patterns ... just as he did with the Oranje at EURO 2000, he just let the team and its stars play naturally ... but he has never been a man to lift a team -- he can only unshackle chained talents, and ride their waves of success as far as they go; creativity is not in his lexicon ...
people keep thinking that Mourinho will stamp his authority at Barça by changing our attacking style to a grind-out-1-nil style ... but that is simply ignorance ... the man works in the direction that the club executives want, toward the objectives the club directors want ... and he brings out the best with the resources he is given, and will ask for any missing resources -- or have the condition to ask for any missing ones, if and when such a time comes to pass ... and, in my opinion, he has had considerable success at all his clubs ...
I know very little about his time at Leiria, apart from the fact that he took them further than the fans' expectations in one season ... but at Porto, he quickly identified both his ideal XI and XXIV from those available in the squad, away on loan, available for free, or via the acquisitioning of full-fee signings the club could afford ... everybody then bore witness to his and his team's rise in the 02-03 and 03-04, which were trophy-laden both nationally, and internationally ....
every Chelsea fan will tell you that Mourinho masterminded the two most glorious seasons in the club's history ... I can visualize Roman Abramovich telling him that he could do whatever, also long the priority to win trophies was maintained -- Premiership first, Champions League next ... but as I mentioned earlier, Mourinho only asks for players if none fit the bill at the club ... but he was refused it because so much was already spent ... but it was never his fault that every time Chelsea came in for a player, the selling club asked for crazy money -- that was down to what Roman himself did in his first season ...
at Barcelona, the squad is comprehensive, with almost each and every position having two top players (much to the envy of many around Europe) ... José will require only a couple of sales/imports; there is no building from fantasy or from scratch like what happened with Chelsea ... if the Laporta and Co. demand maintenance of style and success on the pitch, I believe Mourinho would accept, given those few changes to the squad and backroom staff ...
he has the ability to command the respect and admiration of his squad -- so those of you who are thinking of writing about any conflicts with Messi can save your proverbial breath ... his personality is to infuse the team with both discipline and self-confidence ... the only man who can out-think him in the Champions League is at Liverpool's helm ... but I think that with the team we have at the Camp Nou, Mourinho can put one over Rafa B. ... JM is the undoubted star manager in European football, and I would be delighted with his arrival, if it materializes ...
the signs that Laporta and his staff are hesitant on this matter is obvious to all; they want to show a sense of stability, and to especially not give importance to last night's result against the Auld Enemy ... but with fans growing impatient, and last season's bare cupboard still gnawing at their collective conscience, they know the cost of not acting in time, but also the price to pay if a gamble -- either way -- goes wrong ... I think we can all agree that we are in store for an interesting couple of weeks ahead ....
