Erickson actually said that he had worked with Baggio and a couple of other great players when they were young guys and Rooney has more than they did at the same age .Thats all he said ,he never said Rooney IS better than Baggio only that he has the potential to be,which only time will tell.I also remember Baggio having 1 or 2 bad seasons too so to say Owen is finished for example,is a bit premature i think.I wish ppl would read interviews properly before giving a kneejerk reaction to them....it makes them look kinda stupid.........

He looks very promising indeed, but let´s wait and see his development. There were so many great promising players in the last years that turned into nothing that now i always carefull about saying that someone can be the next Pele.
exactly ... this is what this story is about.
We have to see how Roo develops but he's already acomplished more at his age than a lot of other strikers out there.

Rooney is playing abilities are OK but don't rate him too highly.

Young players like Robbie Keane deserve more praise.

I disagree with you on that, Robbie Keane is in fact a great player but we´ll never be "the top of the cream" we will never reach number 1 spot. At the other end and as i said rooney is very young, has amazing skills for the striker role and I will not be suprised if i see him in a few years time as the number 1 striker in the bussiness. But as i said let´s wait and see, besides i thing that making those kind of statements about a very young player can do more harm than good. A young player needs to be motivated but more importantly needs to have someone that teach him to be humble because youngsters naturaly tend to feel like they are the best in the world and then they don´t work so hard and to be number one you have to work very, very hard every single day no matter how good you are.

Yesterday during Italy v Swden on BBC the commentators compared Rooney to Cassano . Today during Germany v Latvia they compared Rooney to Ballack . WTF is wrong with the British press, f*cking hell...

And Zidane is a defender right:| I think the english people are being too defensive when it comes to their players. Rooney is good but i dont think he will become the best ever. I think he will be above average player at a 4 or 5 place team in EPL in a couple of years after failing to impress at a top level club.

And no i dont have anything agnist English people so thats not the reason why i say Rooeny wont be like Baggio. I just dont think he will make it.:)

Rooney's certainly shown potential, don't take that away from him.
Yes, he probably could end up as great as Baggio or Pele if he continues to improve and stay consistent.
But that's all that can be said about him right now.
He's got potential. Case closed.
Thank you very much and good night.

There is a reason why Sven is saying all this Pele, Baggio stuff, and the "clubs should contact his agent" ****.

He knows it's against the rules, he knows Moyes will get pissed. Remember how nice he was to all the club managers last season? sat them all down, listened to them, mass subsitution.

Why this sudden change?

Because Rooney thrives on it. That is the only reason I can think of why Sven is doing this. Sven is usually reserved about stuff like this but if Rooney will play better by praising him more, who cares?

Apparently it is working.

Michael Owen was never called the next anybody mate......you just made that up.......and true Owen has just had a bad season..........1 bad season and its not all down to him.If you knew anything about what Houllier did to the shape of Liverpool you will know why Owen was not so effective last season, and unfortunatly this has affected his confidence....but like all great players this is temporary and dont mean that his career is over......you need to understand more about the mental side of being a footballer......every striker i have ever heard of has had a barren spell at one time or another, but they never last long..same with Owen......:D
