Really impressive way to leave the Oosterpark . The atmosphere in the stadium was amazing throughout the afternoon and the result did the rest. Groningen have by far the best squad in years and with a little luck we might get a UEFA-cup ticket at the end of the play-offs.

From Groningen perspective it's an exciting draw, and our fourth Cup-home game in a row . Hopefully the Euroborg has the same atmosphere as the Oosterpark had the last couple of weeks. If so, then we might pull of a stunt against PSV. We did it before this season

Ajax en Tottenham Hotspur trokken met volle kracht aan hem maar Feyenoord is er met Ron Vlaar vandoor gegaan. De twintigjarige verdediger van AZ verhuist per 1 januari naar De Kuip, waar hij het WK hoopt te halen.
Vlaar doorstond de medische keuring en tekende een contract tot de zomer van 2009 bij Feyenoord en maakte daarmee een einde aan de lange periode vol onzekerheid over zijn nabije toekomst. 'En daar ben ik heel blij mee. Het heeft altijd mijn voorkeur gehad om voor een grote Nederlandse club te spelen. Dus toen Feyenoord belde, hoefde ik eigenlijk niet zo heel lang na te denken', vertelde Vlaar op de website van Feyenoord.

Vlaar sprak al met Feyenoord-coach Erwin Koeman. 'Hij heeft me het een en ander uitgelegd over de gang van zaken in Rotterdam en zijn manier van aanpak. Dat was heel verhelderend. Over mijn positie binnen de selectie hebben we het maar zijdelings gehad. Dat vond ik prima, want ik realiseer me dat ik het gewoon vanaf de eerste dag in Rotterdam moet laten zien.'

In Alkmaar slaagde Vlaar er onder Louis van Gaal niet in een vaste plek te veroveren, waardoor zijn status als international en deelname aan het WK op de tocht kwam te staan. Bij Tottenham, waar hij zelf en AZ al tot een akkoord mee kwam, vreesde Vlaar gezien de grote concurrentie nog verder uit zicht te raken.

'Na een periode waarin ik meer met randzaken Shifty met het voetbal werd geconfronteerd, is het nu prettig om te weten waar ik aan toe ben. Ik kan bijna niet wachten tot de eerste training.'
