[EPL Week 1] Chelsea vs Manchester United [P + R]

Maybe but the first stat is the only one that matters.......1-0

United played ok......just have some very average players at the moment but the team did not look weak at all,so this was no walk over for us.Saying that this is ,once again,a new squad for us with many of our players losing their Prem virginity today. So considering that i thought our passing(apart from Crapalele)was sharp and decisive....attacks and counter attacks were quick ,defence was solid....midfield battled....not one pussy for our side ,they all got stuck in, which i am happy about.I'm glad Eider was first choice today and he proved to be a worthy inclusion as usual.....yeah all in all a good game.....Man U have nothing to be ashamed of today,it went our way thank god,we will get even better as the season goes on of course.I do not like to go 1 up and then sit back and defend and invite the other team onto us.That stinks and is too risky.Ranieri did it and now it looks like Jose is doing it,but lets see how things pan out over the season before getting into that.Anyway first game of the season and a win for us....still wanna see us score more than 1 though.............:D

From a Chelsea point of view, it was a professional performance- we did all we needed to win the game.

I'll happily admit that Man Utd had more possession than us and were in our half more than we were in theirs but, in all honesty, I cannot remember Petr Cech having to make a difficult save. O'Shea put a header straight into his arms, but other than that I don't think any Man Utd player hit the target.

No player from either team played particularly well, mainly due to the fact that none of the midfielders had any time or space to do much.

Both teams gave away possession too cheaply, especially in the final third of the pitch. Chelsea were quite happy to sit back and wait for Man Utd to give them the ball back when they got anywhere near a good position (I don't remember Fortune putting in a cross that wasn't misplaced).

John Terry was the Man Of The Match according to the stadium announcer, but Roy Keane and Alexi Smertin also played well enough to have come close to winning it.

From what I've read ManUtd can be pretty proud of themselves. An understrength team still dominating. That's good. This isn't too bad a reseult.

Man Utd have played what Chelsea let them play. Chelsea was better and had the match controlled during the 90 minutes. Mourinho's hand is already noticed in the blues.

Chelsea fans are too overconfident in their team's ability. Your not Arsenal yet, far from it. No doubt its a worldclass squad on paper, but the league is not yours. Man U gave them a good game not because Morinho decided to sit back, but because Man U even with a depleted team are a strong opposition. Its bad to get off to a losing start, but this year, by christmas, a full strength and tactically aware Man U would not make these amateur mistakes, and won't miss so many chances.

Chelsea fans and ESPECIALLY the portuguese on these forums are overblowing Morinho's abilities, he's not doubt a good coach, but he's not a god, his team can still be beaten, I can almost certainly guarantee it.

Morinho sitting back!!!! he was standing and shouting making strange handsignals and putting on defensive players!think he was a bit afraid it would be a draw!

my feeling is that the team is not good at the moment, but CFC did not impress me at all, just winning by one goal with all the expensive players they got!if we got our team healthy i think we would have won easy, but that aint the case for the moment so i guess we just have to gratulate CFC with the win and accept the loose!
BTW i see no reason to support CFC just because they beat us,do you?

Shut up and worry about your own team lad. B-ytter, ignore him, he's an ABU and a WUM. He also doesn't have a good enough reason to hate Manchester United, like most people. What did United ever do to Roma?

This was a great win for Chelsea, it's always a plus when you start the season off by beating a team which is one of the favorites for the title. I don't see why everyone is surprised that it was only 1-0 I mean this is how Mourinho plays, don't you remember last years CL? Those horrible games against Deportivo in the semis. I haven't seen the game (I will on Wednesday when FSW shows it :f***: ) but it seems to me from what I've read that Mourinho's tactics were simple "score early and then defend the rest of the way and try to score again on the counter" which is a pretty good tactic against a Man Utd team who is missing their two best forwards RVN and Saha. Great job Chelsea :rockman: :rockman:

i hope he doesn't expect to win the league with this tactic. Because with the Henry's and Van Nistelrooy's and Cisse etc conceding a goal can be very random, especially in the 90th min. They'll find themselves losing many points by relying on 1 goal advantage. It works well in some other leagues, but the EPL is too fast paced for coaches to rely on sitting back.

Byern Munich remembers this...
