England v. Croatia [R]

night

Starting XI
Some commentator made an interesting remark about the England NT. Most international sides devise a system then pick the right players to suit that system. In the English NT, mostly overrated players who don't care much get picked out first then the coaching staff and the manager try to come up with a system that suits them, rarely giving a chance to players who really want to win.

i don't know if it's true, one must know VERY well the international sides to say something like that.
in that case, brazil is similar to england.

Well, now that the posts slowed down a bit, i got a question. Yeah, so why did Bridge get a nod ahead of Cole? And i'm not even gonna ask about why Barry was selected as a holding midfielder, ahead of the so far absolutely superb by a bit injury prone Hargreaves. Ferguson must have used his pimp hand, to tell McClaren to keep him safe for Bolton.

Serious note, had Owen been playing, i guarantee the game would have been that much more different. Arsenal and United, the two best teams in the country at the moment and weren't represented at all for England.

The best league in the world and yet sucking international....too bad. A flycatcher between the pipes and a moron on the bench. Its three lions tradition.

It showed as well, Ive never seen so many long balls in my life. Least maybe now there will be a bit of a clear out, one of either Gerrard or Lampard should retire

somehow, i knew they going to mess up this match and they really did it.. too bad we won't be watching england in next year euro08.. btw, is there any place i can watch the match hightlight?

A mixture of emotions for me last night. Whilst I am gutted England did not qualify the £20 I bet on a Croatia win at odds of 8/1 cushioned the blow.

I think its time to call the special one.

Look it on the bright side... at least now England doesn't risk being knocked out by Portugal if they were to meet once again, since they didn't even manage to qualify... :)

No EURO, no cry!!! ROFL...
that's a good one! :D

Maybe it's time for England to pick players based on the heart they show and not the page 3 girls they ****.

It's not the foreign players fault. It's the England players fault. They're more concerned with their next orgy than they are winning the next match. More concerned with the latest fashions than improving their touch. Would rather hit the nightclubs than spend another night training and pushing themselves to be the best.

I don't even like England but it makes me ******* sick to see players piss talent up the wall and still get millions in cash and praise from the media. If you're going to live that life you better damn well back it up with results. Like T.O. does in the NFL, he talks ****, but nobody can shut him up because he kills himself everyday to make sure he's the best. Chelsea's success isn't down to "Lamps" and "JT" it's down to Drogba, Makelele, Essien and Cech. I could score all those goals from midfield if I had two of the best players in the world beside me like Lampard does. Logic says if you shoot the ball 50 times one of those ****ers is going in.

Kolo Toure never went out to movies when he was a kid, instead he'd sneak into the training ground at night and work his ******* ass off. Look at him now, Arsenal fans adore that man, Arsene Wenger can't describe him in words. At the end of the day he goes home and sits with his wife and kids after training longer than the club expects him to. He's not in the nightclubs, he's not drinking, he's not up until 4am and hitting the training ground drunk and tired the next day.

This is why the foreign players are coming in, this is why Peter Crouch has fetched 12m in transfer fees. His height as something to do with it, yes, but his work ethic is what puts him over the top. There isn't a harder working English player today, there used to be, but he's the last of the Mohicans. Call him names all you want, you won't find an English player who wants it as badly as him., despite his frame's obvious set backs when it comes to running, he manages to cover more ground on average than any English player in the Premier League. Any.

Beckham is another one, he may be a pretty boy, but he cares. When he cries it's not for TV, he's really hurting.

Bring in guys like Campbell, Ledley King and Scott Parker and toss "Lamps" out like the trash he is.

Bobby spot on as usual.

Going on from the page 3 comment, at least we won't have the likes of the S*n going OTT about the (horrible press buzz-word) "WAGs" in the summer when the tournament is on!

Maybe, but they (the FA) cant even use that as an excuse. It was their decision to play a friendly last friday. To play your best goal scorer from the start when he is so injury prone and made out of glass is simply moronic.

Masters of our own downfall all the way to the last game.

McClaren was the worst choice England have ever made...

Shame a bit, maybe some of you hate England, but a tournament like Euro 2008 needs a good English side, won't be the 'same' without them

To be honest, if we had qualified did we seriously expect to do get anywhere in the summer with McClaren at the helm?

The FA needs a good kick up the arse and England needs to rebuild under a manager with proper pedigree.

Barwick can **** right off now!

There were 2 reasons that made me hope that England will qualify: fans & players.
But McClaren doesn't deserves to go to Euro.
Also, Croatia is the best team in group, but Russia is worse than England. They are defending all match long and attacking on counter-attack..
The Sun breaknews title: It's official: Mac is sacked. So no McLaren.

wow... WOW :| saw all the results last night at school and couldn't help but chuckle at England's demise... just absolutely blew it.

I'm kind of sad England didn't make it. They do belong in a European Championship, but yeah, I'm happy for Hiddink aswell.

I already said it at the start. McClaren is no more than an average coach not capable of coaching such a big team of stars. Personally I think the English tabloids have themselves to blame for this, cause no good (foreign?) coach wants his life to be ruined by beeing stalked by these kind of 'newspapers'.

BTW, did anyone else think Croatia went in a little bit too motivated for a match that didn't really matter for them? Perhaps mr. Abramovich offered them some cash. :)
