They're talking about parachuting Romney in on the Republican side - since when did he become a 'saviour figure'?

I think Biden would have been the next president if he had run, what a crazy thought

There's been a "Draft Mitt" movement floating around for awhile now, a lot of people were hopeful he'd declare late last year but it never materialized. Another name that gets floated is Jon Huntsman, Jr., a former Governor of Utah and Ambassador to China under Obama and Ambassador to Singapore under Clinton and Bush, Sr.. I wouldn't call Mitt terribly popular, but he's not unpopular either. He's seen as a savior figure now because Rubio is flailing and the mainline of the party sees Cruz as extreme (because Cruz IS extreme) so they need someone competent to step in, enter Romney.

And yeah, Joe Biden would win easily. People love that guy.

I always liked Huntsman but didnt he finish dead last the one time he ran?

aaaand Rubio is finished.

I don't know who I want to win least out of Trump and Cruz - I think Cruz is a worse human being, but a Trump win is a more scary indictment of the dangers of demagoguery in democracy.

Huntsman is a high quality guy. Very smart and has a lot of very sensible, pragmatic policies. In a less polarized time he'd be a shoe in and be a great President. Right now people see him as "too soft".

Cruz is easily the lesser of two evils. He's not ideal by any means but I don't think he'd peel back the First Amendment or try to have soldiers commit war crimes. He's a dick but he's no monster.

I also think he would be easily beaten by Hilary even if the emails scandal flares up whereas a Hilary vs Trump fight is harder to predict because everything involving trump is hard to predict

I actually think Cruz would cause more lasting harm to the nation. Trump would be a disaster, but ultimately with the checks and balances in place in government he would only really damage himself and our reputation because we were dumb enough to elect him.

Cruz is a fucking nutcase. He is a dangerous extremist who holds pretty much every classic John Birch position, and because there's this perception that he is a mainstream politician for some reason, I think Congress would work with him to pass disastrous policies.

Bobby

The Legend
I think he'd probably govern as a mainstream Republican, if he went too far to the right he wouldn't be able to win reelection whereas Trump's entire appeal is based on his "fuck you" attitude.

Cruz is a lifelong wingnut. He wouldn't be capable of governing as a mainstream politician. He is also someone who believes Obama has been an extreme liberal President, so I think he would strive to overturn all his policies and then go much further as a kind of "our turn now".

There are Trump voters who thought Rubio offered amnesty to Puerto Ricans in exchange for votes.

...I don't even know where to begin.

Btw, what's the general European reaction to Slovakia's election? Extremists made some gains there.

I actually agree with Shifty, I think Cruz is a dangerous (and also highly intelligent) idealogue who intends to pervasively impose his own very stringent personal morality on the nation and would prize achieving those ends above any political capital. I think he is a more obnoxious man than Trump because I genuinely believe that Trump is not as awful as he appears, whereas Cruz is more awful than he appears. HOWEVER, I still think a Trump victory (in the presidential) election would be worse because of the precedent it sets of basically being able to 'snake oil' talk your way into office, if the American government ever becomes malign it will be through these means.

Bernie's doing well considering the entire Democratic establishment and its DC media arm are in Hillary's corner.

He could win those midwestern states that still have the old progressive movement around.

I can't believe Trump has gotten this far. What a nutcase. Ugh.

I honestly couldn't give a shit about politics but I'll give my vote to Bernie so there's that.

I think he will continue to take all those rust belt swing states while Hillary wins deep red states she couldn't even hope to win in the general. Bernie has taken nearly every important swing state for November so far, further demonstrating Hillary's anti-appeal among independents.

She's a terrible candidate. Most of the people willing to vote for her (and the fact that I say "willing to vote for" says everything) in November aren't excited about the prospect at all. Bernie's voters are as energized as they can possibly be.
