JC.... its a waste, such a player in MLS....

come on, where else is he going to go? he's 31 years old, it's not like he's in the peak of his development here. his career is winding down, he's not going to be a first team player for any club that's going anywhere in europe, so why not just capitalize on his fame and maybe try to help the sport grow a little in a good potential market?

Madrid fans around the world are saying "woohoo"!
Beckham is class, but he's a crappy player. It will be nice for him and his family to get less attention for a change

Whos that??? I've seen comments like this before. You aint heard the one where a Argentinian said there 1000's of players better than Beckham. And the commentator asked where are they?? I'll admit the english media glorify him. So what. Brazilians glorify robinho and players like that. These are all good players.

Beckham was and is still one of the best strikers of the ball. Hes ability is there for everyone to see. England being the most famous country in the world any player playing in the national team is going to be glorified. And Becks has been on of the main players. The English Premier League is the most watched league of any sport in the world. More than American Football, Baseball you name it. It earns way more money than any sport being watched in the whole world. There are more people watching this than there are watchin the superbowl. The fact of the matter is that Becks played in England. One of the reasons hes a famous player. Even if he didnt go to Madrid it wouldnt have made much of a difference but it did help.

wow someone's not acquainted with the concept of sarcasm.

The Legend
Could have gotten 100 Clint Dempseys, or 250 Cam Weavers for that. 23 year old domestic players who have ****ed off overseas because MLS threw some low ball offer at them.

Nice.

well not that suprised since america is where most of the washed up stars go these days or to the middle east but i guess he wants to boost his profile in usa more. kinda feel a bit sorry for him cos his career has went down the ****ter since he married that bint tho his 'star' appeal has went up

No. His career nosedived when Fattie Furguson realised that Beckham was more popular than him and sacked him.

I just love the way "so called" Man U fans slag him off. Do you actually realise all that he did for your poxy club. Not just his contribution to those trophy's that you like to boast about, but financially too? Jealous tossers.

Help?

25 million pounds a year! DAMN!!!!!! What a way to finish his career, plus he has great opportunities in LA to get into modelling or showbiz after! The guy is ******* set and loaded for life now, not that he wasn't while with Madrid though.

Anyway, money-grabbing bastard. If he would really love the game he would've gone to some other european club.

in terms of transfer, marketing, media. (we all know Becks cant even cut Pele´s grass or feed his fish)

Damn $250,000,000 according to ESPN. Even if he's past his best days if he sells out the most of the games for a couple seasons then this could be a real success and a pattern that continues with more old and previously great players. But please MLS don't make the same mistake again and turn this into the NASL

MLS will pay him about $400,000 per year, that's hardly a waste of money for a superstar.

It's more like 1 million a week, unless you saw something different in the contract.

What exactly would you know about what goes on at our club? Were you in the dressing room for all those years? Were you there? No, so worry about washing Roman's blood money, not what happens at our club.

The fact remains, Beckham, the Utd legend he is, started giving less and less to us, and more to England. Add to that Solskjaer was outperforming him on the right and the decision wasn't very hard.

great move for the MLS, it finally and i do mean finally gives the league some damn national exposure. Becks is still a pretty good player, plus its good to see a well known star playing in your own league. As someone mentioned before, hopefully this will open the door to more stars coming down the road.

Obviously, Becks isnt at his peak, but it's not like he's out there using a cane to get around either.

are you talking about the thread where most SG members reached the conclusion that everyone hates Uruguay and their crappy football team?

good ridense, i like the guy but i think he is the ****test footballer ever.

i hope him going to the us will help make soccer (as they call it there) more popular, i think its a good move not just for la galaxy but for soccer as a whole in the states.

i hope soccer is more popular in the U.S. but our American Football will always be our prominent national sport.
This is a great first step though.

Also guys if this was Ronaldinho or some other player only "soccer" fans in the U.S. would only care because most people in the U.S. don't know who Ronaldinho is. Becks has been in that american movie "bend it like beckham" i'm so happy. maybe they will show soccer on t.v. finally (other than the champions league and the world cup)

So posh bint wants to move to LA, eh? David wants to expand 'brand Beckham' to the USA.

He obviously hasn't gone for footballing reasons that's for sure. He wouldn't have been short on offers from European clubs.

I don't buy the argument that they will somehow escape the limelight in the states either. If anything it will be worse. LA is the home of the paparazzi afterall.

So he went to the place that pays him more, like (I guess) most people who work do. Is this a surprise to anyone?
