Is it just me, or is the CPU's defending just unstoppable?
Whenever I make a run and come to a defender, they ALWAYS take the ball away, no matter what move I try to pull off.
I was forced to switch to Amateur level because I really have NO way of scoring, which is no fun at all now.....

Any tips for a desperate guy on how to pass a defender???

I use crosses, I barely try to run in cause the defense is good. Sometimes on a couter-attack, I'll get a good position to take a shot on the goalie. Also, if your player looses the air challange, the defender will hit the ball out and if one of your players gets the ball, tap the shoot button and the player will make a low to the ground well placed long shot.

I got no clue how to get past the defence, you can probably get past one defender by switching direction and running but when you face all 4 then it's not possible.

I've been having the same problem. The computer defense really packs it in towards the back. It is pretty rare to be able to beat a defender no matter who the player with the ball (Henry,Owen etc. etc.) is. I think a reason it is like this is to encourage the user to use the Off The Ball Control feature. Another problem I have is the fact that any defender no matter how slow he is in real life can catch the fastest strikers. Oh well...I guess it will keep the game challenging!

Also you can use conservatice tackle while behind a player. It will most likely result in a foul, but once the reff didn't call the foul resulting in a goal for me. LOL :)

Also, try to convert your set peices. Corners are pretty good chances to score. Even if your player looses the challange during the corner, if another of your players gets the ball you can easily score on the rebound.

Exactly, what is up with the conservative tackles in this game>
Every one I make, no matter how small, results in a free kick....this also gets frustrating

I dunno. Well, how are you supposed to steal the ball from a player when you are facing his back or side? That's when the fouls happen.

I like the game because it's harder to score.

I did find that I was having luck with taking the ball down the wing to the corner of the 18 yard box and then flicking a lob My striker would sometimes be able to volley oy use a diving header to score. There also is that one spot just outside the 18 yard box where you can score almost every time although I think it gets harder as you increrase the difficulty level.

I'm having the same "problem" with AI defense. Don't really wanna call it a problem cause I was able to score from freekick (direct and indirect) and corners, which in my opinion is a good new feature in this version.
Now you actually have some control over your player and it's no longer a roll of the dice whether you get a goal or not. Same goes for defending your opponent's corner.

But defending your own goal is much better than in FIFA03. There
are more ways to stop the attackers and leave you with more options to clear the ball. Like in FIFA03 when you got in front with 3 points the computer would put on an all out attack and start circling your goal. After a few shots on goal they would score and all this time you weren't able to clear the ball. Attackers seemed to be pro-tacklers all of a sudden. Frustrating... I like the fact EA has decided to calm down on this "AI Retaliation".

When getting behind an attacker you first have to get beside him before you can use the conservative tackle. If not you will either kick him on his heels or pull his shirt or push him in the back.
Also it's not recommended to sprint+conservative tackle into upcoming attacker (on the front) this will cause your defender to barge in to the attacker and miss the ball completely, resulting in either a free kick or a loose ball for additional attackers to pick up and one defender on the ground. Let the attacker come closer though and move backwards until you can take the ball of him and move up the pitch yourself in search of revenge.

You really don't wanna use the sliding button when behind the attacker. This will cause pulling your opponent to the ground or injuring/sweeping his legs which will almost always won't go unpunished.

It's always handy to call in a second defender (on PC >> press C) in case the ball get's loose and more attackers are in range of the ball.

What? I slide tackle with the last defender from behind and I don't usually get carder. LOL

I like the way EA made the game.

I hate the CPU defense because when you pass to one of your attackers, you NEVER have any time to react. You aren't able to pass the ball, take a shot, or even run with the ball because the CPU will always intercept the ball as soon as your attacker gets it..........

Still, I manage with this and play on Semi-Pro..even though I have a tough time.

Defence is harder i dun think it is as hard as u make it out 2 be i play on pro i usually score 1-2 a game

I know u can slide from behind, but if you don't time it right you end up attacking the attacker and not the ball. Sometimes the attacker won't even fall down and still you get a card, so it's a bit tricky but after a few rounds on the practice field you will know when to use which tackle. Game on...

sup guys i've been a big fifa fan for years, since i live in the states i don't come around many footy games, last year i thought it was a good step foward, this year it seems like they added a few things here and there which actually hinder the gameplay. and why are the 3 on the cover unstopable? its a big marketing scam if you ask me. i don't even want to go into everything wrong with this game. EA i've supported you for so many years, i had this game on pre-order and was expecting great things. i bought it two days ago, tomorrow im going to trade it in no matter what amount i get in return, the loss of my is worth losing the frustration i have right now. never again EA never again, i think i just stop playing these games and just stick to playing the real deal, but it gets damn hard here in NY with all the snow now in the winter, DVDs wooo hoooooo!!!

I also think there's a problem with the CPU Defense. They always cut my ball when i do special tricks and freestyle stuff. Most annoying part is, when using OTB and the cpu will steal the ball before u can even think who u wanna pass to.

Goalie AI are sometimes stupid. Once I did a weak shot and he never managed to save it. Sometimes, they're like superman. Many 1 on 1 situations with great strikers such as ronaldo or crespo, the goalkeeper normally will save it or block the shot.

haha.. you should try playing multiplayer.. you're free time is cut out completely. OTB is useless when someone is mashing tackle button and ramming it up your ass
