You have only been in copa america 5 times, we've been more and we want to have a copa america only in our country, not a co-host... so yes we care. :kader:

I've heard similar things before... I've even said some myself. Since 1995 with every tournament less people have turned up, less money has been made and fewer nations have taken the tournament seriously. The Copa America is in obvious need of restructuring.

To start with it should be every 4 years starting after Venezuela 2007 to avoid WCQ.

The participants/groups, IMO, should be like this: the 10 Nations from CONMEBOL + the 6 Nations that reached the final WC Qualifying round in CONCACAF.

With this system, using the WCQ 2002 final standing as reference, the CONCACAF Participants would be: Costa Rica, Mexico, USA, Honduras, Jamaica and T&T.

Seeded: Argentina and Brazil (obvious reasons), No.1 from CONCACAF WCQ (Costa Rica) and Hosts (Venezuela).

In the event that a Nation does not wish to participate for whatever reasons (USA... ), a CONCACAF nation would be invited in their place (pretty much like we do now).

That is everybody´s dream...but its not going to happen:f***:

Well, if I were Venezuelan, I'd use the fact that the Copa America was originally founded by CONMEBOL Nations and that Venezuela being the only CONMEBOL nation to yet host the tournament should have priority in hosting it ahead of Mexico, who despite being a participant for the last decade, are still "guests".

But then, I'm not Venezuelan... ;)

(Menos mal, no Mauri? :p )

No because then there would be no point to a World Cup...

Ibas bien hasta eso ultimo  :crazyboy:

We co-host Copa America in 1979 or 1981 i don't remember, but yes we want to host it alone. I think that this is not going to happen unless some political issues came into the picture. Also i don't think CONMEBOL would allow that, maybe some confederation would reject this and give us a hand.

Ruben Sosa, do you even know why USA decided not to go the Copa America?

Do you?

I've heard a lot of speculation, from congested fixtures and insufficient security to the MLS and Olympics being a priority. As far as I know they never gave an official reason why they decided not to take part, and honestly, I don't really care. I rather have Costa Rica participate anyway.
