Well, no thread for the third place match it seems. Mexico won 3-1. Uruguay opened the score with Abreu, then a penalty was called, and a player got tossed. Uruguay was with 10 men for about 15 minutes of the first half and the whole second half. Even then, Mexico didn't do much until Guardado came in.

Bravo scored a nice goal, then Guardado scored with a rocket shot a la versus America. Then Ochoa showed his skills with a great save near the end. Uruguay still played well despite having 10 players. And Nery was a shadow of himself in the second half again. He seems pretty bothered by that injury, or he just ran out of gas.

Overall, Mexico had a fine showing in the cup. Obviously third place isn't anything to brag about, but it was more than I initially expected when it started. Either way, this showed a new revelation with Nery Castillo. I doubt he'll play for Olympiakos next season. Guardado showed he's ready for Europe. Memo Ochoa might have gotten himself a ticket to Europe with this tourney. Jonny Magallon played great the whole time, and Jaime Correa seemed to be pretty solid as well.

I'm satisfied for now, I would've liked to see us in the final. But Argentina has a full strength squad, and they got to be the favorites to win it tomorrow.

I wanted the final, we didnt reach anything new with Hugo, yeah the team is playin ok, but we need to start to win things, we need credibility.

I was going to watch it, but in the end I couldn't find the motivation because I knew The game didn't have that extra meaning. Also, I was a bit gutted about the U.S U20 going out of the WC :(.

Congrats that they won though.

It was a bull**** sending off though.

Castillo should have been given a chance in goal in the third place playoff. Not that I think he could have done anything in any of Mexico's goals, but he deserved it. Pretty much everyone here agrees he should of been the starting GK throughout the cup.

We played alright, but wrapped up a pretty poor cup for us. Can't help but conclude that the year+ of "training" was a pointless waste of time and money, even if Tabarez justifies it by saying the objective is the WCQ's.

Well then Brazil is the champion and gets their 8th Copa América. Argentina is 2nd, Mexico is 3rd and Uruguay is 4th.

Robinho was the top scorer with 6 goals.

The throne for the most winning remains shared between Argentina and Uruguay with 14, Brazil follows behind with 8, way back Paraguay and Peru with 2, and in the last position Bolivia and Colombia both with 1.

To be confirmed within the next months the next Copa América will be in Argentina in 2011. I think it'll be good for us because there will be excuse to expand/remodel some old stadiums and more likely build new ones in different areas.

See you in 2011.:ewan:

Well there's nothing official as of yet. Chile is interested in hosting the Copa America, but if the rotation policy continues the next country to host it should be Argentina. I've heard Mexico might host an "extraordinary" Copa America in 2009, without a trophy in dispute.

It will be confirmed in December, the matter is there's interest on keeping this rotation, however if for any reason Argentina isn't going to host then Chile will. I'm hoping that it will be hosted in here in 2011 for the reasons i stated before, also i'd rather have a Copa América hosted in Argentina than a world cup anyday.
