Copa América 2011

hah, yeah, my "prediction" wasn't hard coz my ideal scenario for Uruguay would have matched anyone's analysis based on strength on paper ...

anyway, I "predicted" it (fact), but -- in terms of results -- it was coz WC 2010 panned out almost exactly like I ideally wanted ...

my point was that I'm backing Uruguay coz of 3 players, and clearly have done for a while ... so I was patting Luis on the back for delivering the ideal experience for me at the Copa ... simple as ...

Yeah, I dug up that thread too. Those "predictions" aren't your predictions.

1) They were done after the start of the Tournament
2) You call them "ideal" and make no comment at all that they are actually predictions instead of what you just want to see

Why am I positive #2 is a justified criticism? Because of this post:

Where you seem to give every indication that "ideal" is different from what you actually think is going to happen (i.e. is plausible). Nice try though; 2 Semi-Finalists is respectable for an above average fan.

Why are you people taking about european teams? this is copa america isnt it?

Venezuela surely did enough to have reached the final though, so unlucky in extra-time.

in sadly way Venezuela don't reached to the final match... because the deserved but don't get it =(.
I surely Venezuela is the second team with a best performance of the Copa America. Or Maybe the third just because they arent in the final match just that

Senior Squad
The Paraguayan Tactics Are Very Defensive, The Just Wait Their Rivals To Tire Up And Blam

Freak Info: Paraguay Haven't Won A Match On Match Time nor Extra Time, Just By Penalties, I Think That Uruguay May Win The Final Match, Reasons, Good Forwards (Suarez, Forlan), a Solid Defense (Against Argentina They Have Some Good Highlights, Except Arevalo Rios, He Well, Make Way Too Many Fouls, Maybe, Good Backs Like Lugano)

And With a Good Keeper As Muslera.

Yes i agreed with u, but the last two match against Brazil and Venezuela, Was
Totally different because they do a ugly defence, and just save by the Lucky moment and the Good GK.
So Paraguay just wait their Rivals overpower the defence and Plam Right in Post.

This has to be the ****tiest Copa America by far. Even Copa America 2001 was better than this.

I strongly disagree, this years has been very good. The Uruguayan squad is showing why they are world class.

here's my pre-final Copa review:

MVP

José Paolo Guerrero is so clutch for Peru: 3 matches, 2 goals, 1 assist, all crucial ...
make that 5 matches, 5 goals, 2 assists ... he's not only Peru's player of the tournament, he's in contention for tournament MVP ... and he could win it if neither Luis Suárez nor Palito Pereira win the match for Uruguay ...

INT'L LETDOWN
I love the intensity and carnival atmosphere of an international tournament month ... but this one has been as much of a let down as recent international tournaments (going back to EURO 2004?) ... like WC 10, the results on paper are close to ideal as far as I'm concerned; but as I've said many times, results without entertainment are useless to me ... and it seems like things are progressively getting worse ...

so many teams resort to a cheap counterattacking tactic (branded "effective play" :clapwap:), though I think the bigger problem is that the more traditionally gifted nations not producing players and/or tactics to deal with AND mock it ...

tournaments of the level of France '98 and especially EURO 2000 are an increasingly distant memory ...

ANYONE NEW?
no real standouts amongst the younger / lesser-known players at the tournament ... for Uruguay, only Sebastián Coates is new -- he has showed consistency, which is always a good sign for a young defender ...

amongst the others only Marcelo Estigarribia caught the eye, though I think he could be a supersub at a mediocre team in a top league, at best ...

I won't be surprised if Paraguay gives a lesson one more team in the penalty shoot out. Imagine them lifting up the Copa America trophy without a single win.(H)

wow, I thought if Suárez scored the winner (which he did), he'd be a shoe-in for MVP after winning the semifinal for them as well ... but it looked like only the Silver Ball for him ...

good on young Sebastián Coates for winning the Young Player award ... won't be surprised if this tournament and award fast-tracks a move to Europe for him ...

Luis + Edinson + Diego ftw ...
awesome way to wrap up the tournament: Il Matador -> Luisito -> Cachavacha -> Champions! (H)

shame it had to be on a counter, but at least they had already laid siege to the Paraguay goal in the first half, and towards the latter part of the second, to merit the 3-0 scoreline ...
