CL Group E: Steaua - Lyon [P+R]

A great 43 minutes of play from us (Lyon had like 65% possesion and no shots whatsoever) only to be ruined by yet another Carlos mistake :(

onlly when he was starting to play good, I'm crushed :(

We've looked capable to score in the first half though and I think in a weird way playing one goal down might be in our advantage because now we have more of an incentive to attack and control the midfield.

PS: Goian , this guy is world class and he is proving it yet again tonight.

Thank you Callum for the accurate statistics, but those have pretty much nothing to do with Lyon's goal so go find another ocassion.

I'm just sad about the stupid goal we've got, a 0-0 result at ht would have been good but maybe this will motivate the players even more, who knows? Except from that mistake, Carlos saved one or two sure goals so it was just bad luck. Maybe Oprita will get in, Nicolita needs some rest (benching time) cause I really don't know what he is doing in the first eleven. Bostina started the game pretty quiet but he improved later on, which is good for his morale, I was afraid he'll suck (like he did many times this season when given the chance). I hope Olaroiu will make the best decisions.

Actually it shows lyons superior, because I mean how can u score with having no shots on goal? You cant, so I guess it does have something to do with their goal.

i can see a steaua comeback. but if it don't turn up to be a comeback in the result, etc., the most important thing is- steaua plays well, and especially against the toughest team in this CL group. I consider Lyon to be one of the greatest teams in this year's competition.
i think, steaua will have it easily against Madrid, since Real are not much than a travelling circus, with most of the players older than 30. :P
Teams like Lyon are the real ones, so it won't be the end of the world to lose to them, i think.

calm down! nobody is questioning Lyon being one of the best teams in the latest years.
How is he not calm. He is stating something that is a fact. If you take 6 shots and the other team takes none, it is much more probable that you will score.

I understand the emotional value of the game for the Steaua supporters, but just because someone makes a comment, doesn't mean they are attacking you. There are people out there that support other teams, including Lyon.

2-0 Lyon Tiago.... now just need Juninho to score and my prediction will be complete.

Thank you, im not trying to rub it in, its just a little out of line to say lyon didnt deserve to score and steaua were so close.

alright. i wasn't saying Lyon didn't deserve to score. What is more, i think your team deserved last year more than 1/4 finals, and i hope this year you wil lget at least to the semi-finals. I like Lyon very very much. If more teams play like Lyon, and less teams tend to be like those shibby "giants" like Madrid, Milan and whoever else, the european football would be better.
Steaua - keep the chin up. i mean, after the game in Kiev, you have the third place 99% secured, which means if not more CL football after the 6 matches, at least UEFA Cup, and more more europeans games. :ewan:

Wasn't bitching, was just pissed off at the goal we've got.

Well, the first one. :( Lyon dominated us but at least I hope we've learnt something from this game.

Lyon showed it's class, not doubting that, they did play better and they showed why they are one of the best teams in Europe.

HOWEVER (Steven A. Smith-like)

We could of gotten at least a draw out of this had it not been for Carlos's s*it performance. First goal is the worst blunder in the history of football. On Tiago's goal, I'm just wondering...why is Mr. Carlos on his goal line when the ball is crossed to the near post (where he is at) inside of the 6 yard box :fool:. He just sat there and waited for the ball to fall onto somebody head instead of going in for the punch like a real goal keeper should.

The last 20 minute or so belonged to us. We had some great passing combinations around Lyon's box and for a while there I thought we could actually come back but we were poor on our finishing tonight. We showed that we can play at this level and in my opinion the scoreline doesn't tell the tale of game. You can look at statistics all you want Callum but if you actually saw the match you would know that 3-0 isn't truly representative of the match. But oh well, it is 3-0 and it's like we're starting all over againg now with a 4-4 goal differential. I'm confident about the home game against Real and I think we can get a result. A draw would not be bad. We just need to be a little more aggressive from the start and not leave our offensive game aside until we go one goal down. I hope Olaroiu makes the tactical changes necessary and realizes this himself, he's a good manager and I have trust in him.

Our players played well today but the lack of experience showed, it will come with time (Y).

Carlos? Go back where you came from you worthless piece of s*it.

Hah Carlos just isn´t reliable. He can be unbelievable but he can also make incredible blunders. Teams need consistent goalkeepers and Carlos just isn´t one.

The 2nd goal just proved that zonal marking < man marking. Petre Marin was at the near post yet he didn't move a finger(/muscle), Ghionea and Goian were in front of the goal yet no one blocked Tiago. And yeah, Carlos should have been there too. What Becali said after the match was correct, you can't play against teams like Lyon without players that know how to keep the ball, do something with it and eventually pass.

100% agreed

He can have some absolutely amazing moments but then he can have nighmares like this. A GK has to be constant, it's ok if one or two of the 10 outfield players has an off day because there are others that can make up for that but if you GK is having an off day you are screwed. We just need to find a better GK, I'm tired of seeing Carlos receive absolutely ridiculous goals over and over and over then seeing him having an amazing game only to be dissapointed in the next one :boohoo:.

There isn't a Romanian lad out there better than him? I find that hard to believe.

True as well, we wasted so many passes tonight :nape:

There's no point in blamind the defenders for the second goal, that is 100% Carlos's fault. As a GK the 6 yard box should be YOURS. No player should have the opportunity to get a head onto the ball, for Christs sake YOU CAN USE YOUR HANDS, THEY CAN'T!! :kader:
