Utd 3 - 1 Chelsea

Managed to catch the streams for the 2nd half, and Utd deserved the result.

They were sharper in front of goal, for all the possessions and shots we had, we weren't anywhere near convincing as we should be.

Defence on Utd's goals was horrible, Terry and A.Cole got caught out various times. Two goals came from Cole's side, and he really is capable of much better defending. Valencia had a field day with his cut-backs for both goals.

Sturridge was our best player on the day. Very direct play and was at the heart of our attacks after he came on. Kalou despite scoring, I still don't think he has what it takes against the bigger sides. Benayoun will take time to adjust to our system.

I was disappointed that Carlo didn't bring on Kakuta. Would've love to see him having a go at Utd's defence.

Hilario is starting prove me wrong, I initially thought highly of him, but he's making more and more mistakes. He was caught in no man's land for the third goal. IMO, both him and Turnbull are on the same level, so we don't actually have a proper 2nd keeper, which is a bit worrying the more I think about it. :p

So that was pretty bad. We weren't deserving of such a scoreline, but still, ManU were dangerous when they got their chances, and we weren't. Cole was abysmal, the entire defense was only held together by Iva, who played very well.

I don't care about the shield, but losing to ManU is still bad. Terrible preseason, and this WC-hangover bull**** isn't going to cut it if this carries over to the league, it better not.

EDIT: No way, Sturridge was selfish and looked better than he should because he was up against Evans on the wing. Good on him for crafting chances, but he has a long way to go and definitely wasn't the best guy yesterday. That's Iva without a doubt, followed by Essien.

I still think Hilario is better than Turnbull, but neither of them is good enough, since Cech gets injured a lot. Someone at Cudicini's level would be great. I don't think Hilario got caught out at that goal, he wasn't at the wrong place, but he made the mistake of going for Berbatov, and his a lot of fault for that goal, but his positioning is actually one of the things he's good at.

Sinclair to Swansea. Meh.

And several youth, like Taylor, Bertrand, Gordon, Philskirk, have gone on-loan, none for the entire season.

EDIT: Also, Kenyon has left.

Yep, the pre-season has been a shambles really. Lots of understandable reasons for that of course. Players being allowed to come back later than usual, and Carlo giving fringe players a chance to play are only two of them.

The squad's only been complete for little over a week, and it's clear that some of the players are still nowhere near match fit, either physically or mentally.

That was evident yesterday, when we were caught napping on three occasions, and we paid the price every time. We made United look good, but in fact it was ourselves who were very below par on the day.

Not nice to lose at any time to anyone, but lets write this result off as part of our disappointing pre-season, and rely on Carlo and the players to sort themselves out and get the new season off to a flying start. What else can a fan do huh?

We so miss Cech. Hilario and Turnball are not good enough to step up into his place. With him missing our defence becomes nervous and we make mistakes. The problem is of course, is that no goalkeeper that is good enough would want to join any club just to warm the bench. The same problem that we had with Carlo Cudicini in fact. Still, something really needs to be done in that department and very soon.

So, you might be dissapointed with the game yesterday, and our showing probably didn't fill you with confidence, but it's where we are when April-May comes around that is important.

Listening to the Man U players mouthing off today, you'd think that they had already won the league, silly mugs. Still after Man U's achievements last season, you can understand the elation they must feel on winning the Charity Shield. They can now add it to last season's Carling Cup. :innocent_smile_1:

So, Riccy's gone. Kind of disappointed, the man was such a fantastic defender. I suppose it makes sense, though, he hasn't been playing as much, and we might as well cash-in. This is also a step towards rejuvenating the squad.

I think when it was said that we would be relying more on youth, I didn't realise just how much that would be. By the looks of it, we're going to be having youngsters play a big part in the squad this year. In the long run this is a good thing. More youngsters get to develop and Chelsea becomes a more attractive option for them, which is crucial since we'll be signing youth more so they can be homegrown. But I don't think that this will get us results this season. Our squad is definitely weaker now than it was at this point last season, and we won the league by a point, the cup by a single free-kick, and fell in Europe. Not exactly sure how I feel about it.

I initially thought the deal was dead in the water after Jose said Riccy's age put him off from buying him. Typical Jose eh? :D

Initially thought Riccy would've played a part in the team this season, Mancienne has often looked his way out from what I read(to Wolves). I'm not sure what this means exactly. When Bosingwa comes back will Carlo actually change Bane back to CB? Or will he keep his place at RB and put Bruma in for backup.

Riccy had experience in abundance, same for all of our players that have gone so far. I'm not sure what to hope for this season to be honest. I don't think we'll be spending for a replacement CB. The only deal we're close to signing is with Ramires, and even that isn't a 100% confirmation.

Nevertheless, we'll find out how things pan out after the West Brom game.
I think the positives we get is that, Riccy hasn't been the same since his injury, he's not getting younger, and we needed to put in fresh legs eventually and we're able to do that this season. Also, the fact that with Ballack, Cole, Belletti, Deco and Riccy gone, we've freed up tons of space as far as the players' wages bill are concerned.

With all that said, for all the service he's done to Chelsea FC, I hope Riccy plays well for Madrid and finds success, just that they don't get in our way in the CL.

Bruma got his Dutch debut and is now a full international, even though it's just because they didn't call-up any of the WC squad. Still, he's one of the 10 best Dutch CBs in principle, not too shabby.

3rd kit revealed, it's also good, although I like our other kits more:

Carlos Cork goes back on-loan to Burnley for the entire season. Was kind of hoping to see him get more Premiership experience, but he'll probably get more time there.

Neymar, new Chelsea player, confirmed by Portuguese newspapers...

But not anywhere else. I only believe things when they appear at the Chelsea site, and considering how long it took for Benayoun and Ramires (who hasn't yet) to appear, it's still some way away.

He's an excellent young talent, and it would be awesome to havce him become an HG at our club, but I'm always wary of foreign dribblers coming here because many of them can't handle the style. The fact that he's such good friends with Robinho (it seems), makes me wary that he'd end up the same sort of person, and we don't need that. Assuming he's professional, I would welcome him coming here.

Neymar has been linked with us since early July I think. Its another case where the player's father and the player himself agrees but the club is blocking the move until we meet their astronomical fee. This could take ages, similar to the Essien saga.

We've already had an official bid turned down, so its evident that we're interested in him.

But I have no idea what's the delay with Ramires. He should've been wrapped up by now, according to Ray Wilkins.

Ramires was granted a permit yesterday and is doing a medical today, so that's confirmed by Carlo.

When asked about Neymar Carlo said the same thing he did when he was asked abour Ramires. Who knows, we'll wait and see.

Alex and Cech are back in the squad, Lamps and Drogs are possible, but doubtful. Either Malou will drop to midfield with Drogba returning to the attack, or Benayoun will come in for Lamps. Can't waity for tomorrow, Spanish TV is broadcasting this, which is a welcomed change.

4-0, Anelka, Malou, Kalou to score.

We have officially signed the ugly ****er that is Ramires. Quite pleased, by the sounds of things he could be a good, rejuvenating addition to our squad. Squad number unknown for now, and he won't feature tomorrow, but will start training next week. Last season I said that I wanted us to start rejuvenating, and it's what we're doing. I said I wanted more youth involvement, and we're doing that.

So, for now, I can't complain. Let's see how it turns out.

If Neymar hypothetically signed for us this month, does anyone know what his HG status would be when he turns 22? He'd have spent around 3 years here, but I think it needs to be exactly 36 months.

I guess he would qualify as HG (the bit in parentheses):

A home-grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21).‬‪

EDIT: but with all this talk of Santos taking you guys to FIFA and what not over your pursuit of Neymar, you think the transfer is still on?
