Chelsea have confirmed that Ballack and J.Cole will be leaving this summer on frees. I'm very disappointed about this, I think they both had roles to play still, but this is football. I wish them all the best in the future and keep my fingers crossed that they move abroad so we don't have to face them. I'd really hate to see Cole player for one of our rivals.

Not as disappointed about this one, actually, I was kind of hoping for it to happen. He helped us, and was a decent, versatile back-up player, but I'd rather see a young player get a chance. These departures will probably mean that we'll be getting a DM in the summer, Toure being a likely candidate.

I wouldn't mind seeing Matic, Mancienne and Cork try out for the role, though.

you mean Yaya? i think he is going to arsenal as part of the deal to bring Cesc to Barcelona...

He's been linked with City, Arsenal and us. Apparently he rejected City because he prefers us. Personally, the prospect of losing all 3 of ours DMs every 2 years for a month is not appealing, and I'm not a big fan of his. He'll also look for high wages and considering that he'd be 3rd choice (in my eyes anyway), I don't see why we should break the bank for him. And with Arsenal and City as competitors, we will have to spend big to get him.

I'd give Mancienne and Matic a shot.

Sad that Joey and Ballack has decided to leave us. Belletti, I'm not surprised. I'm honestly gutted to hear the news and also hope we won't have to see Joey in a Premiership opposition shirt. The idea sickens me to the core, although I'll probably just have to get used to it.

Matic, Kakuta, and Hutchinson to step up I suppose, but Joey leaving(which I did not fully expected, as well as Ballack) opens up the possibilities of perhaps a marquee signing or two. Ballack leaving has left a huge wage allowance to fill, Joey as well.

Maybe we can sign a big name or two(who are not past it) after two financially subdued seasons in the transfer activity.

Come next season, I'll have to change me sig. :D

J. Cole wanted 100,000 GBP apparently which is a bit too much for him. But I don't think that they'll be rushing to fill the gap left by Ballack's wages. I think the point is to reduce the wage bill. As long as Chelsea don't turn into Arsenal with the youth/reserve players then I don't mind.

Harry's got the inside track on getting him to Spurs, surely? substituting a bigger wage with a guaranteed starring role in a potential Champions League campaign ...

where did you hear that? coz there are a couple of good sources that say otherwise, and a couple of good reasons why too ...

first-team football is the only real reason he's leaving Barcelona ... which is why he would prefer City over you guys, and not the other way around ... plus his brother is in Manchester, and will probably influence the decision too ...

arbitrarily? or is there actually a reason? coz you keep referring to him as a DM, even though he was adapted at Barcelona to play in that position, and used at CB (when injuries struck the squad large), due to his physical presence ... he is versatile, no doubt, and can play DM, but that is not his ideal or preferred position ... at Monaco, he played CM, CAM, but rarely at DM ... at Chelsea, his only real shot at a starting spot would be at DM, while at City he could have more leeway ...

I haven't discussed the Arsenal possibility because, even though it would be ideal for Laporta if he could use Yaya as a makeweight in the Cesc deal, they won't be able to match the wages he'd be offered at City ...

We know, we just don't like it. We can read the papers, too, btw.

BBC Sports Transfer page, Sky sports, mirrorfootball, about 3-4 weeks ago.

I'm glad he's got better alternatives, because I'm not keen on his potential arrival.

I refer to him as a DM because that's what he is, just like Ivanovic is a right-back. I've only ever seen him at Barca, and where he played best there, and the only place he could get a shot at here, would be as a DM. Essien isn't a DM either, but that's his standard role. I don't want him because he has nothing that Mikel or Essien don't have. Essien is miles better, contributing a lot in both attack and defense, and Mikel is another of the slow and physical mold but I would prefer him because he's settled at the club and has better distribution.

And I provided more reasons in my last post on the subject.

I'm only sad about Joe Cole leaving, Ballack has been good in place of Essien AND Mikel, but both of those should be fit for next season, so he won't be missed, and Belleti was only really a bit-player, so again, not much missed. Joe Cole has been good and will be missed really.

You guys should be happy that these older players left esp Ballack and Belleti. Why would you want to keep them? They are way past their peak. Their departure probably mean Abramovic giving more cash for fresh blood (or young players given the chance). I'm pretty sure you guys will spend.

WTF? We sold Stoch to Feherbache or whatever they're called. Didn't even get a shot at preseason with the team after his impressive year. So we're selling our established squad members to make room for youngsters, but we're also selling our promising youngsters.

This is gonna be a marquee signing summer and I'm not looking forward to it.

Zakov

Senior Squad
Can't understand that decision at all to be honest. Its one thing to sell a player if he isn't doing well for the club, in this case, we're not even giving him a glimpse of a chance to prove himself.

Very disappointed.

Zakov

Senior Squad
He'll be decent backup. 30 years old, creative midfielder, but a he'll have to up his work rate to play at a club like Chelsea. We must've agreed on cheap wages if we let Joey go for free and signed him(Yossi) on a 3 year deal instead.

I can't honestly see him as our only signing, especially after letting 2 regular squad members leave for free.
Strong rumours are linking us with Torres, don't see where he'll fit us tbh.

Lamps, and Drog aren't getting any younger. We can't honestly depend fully on our youth squad for our future can't we?

I don't think we have a striker that's even half as a good as Kalou in our youth setup.

I reckon Roman is aware that he'll need to spend more if he really wants us to have a chance at the Champions League.

I think we will be buying players like Ivanovic, so Iam not afraid about future.
Anyway I dont understand salling Stoch, that was absolutely stupid!!

We've signed young defender Tomas Kalac from Czech Republic's Sigma Olomouc for a reported 5.2m. He will stay on loan at his club for now.

Mikel and Essien are doing special training to regain fitness, Bosingwa is still injured, and the rest of the squad has started training. The World Cup players will get some time off, and won't participate in the friendly against Crystal Palace.
