Well, I managed to get hold of some highlights in the game against Guangzhou, we had a decent game with most players featuring except injuries to Sheva, Drog, Ballack and Joey. But the shape of the formation looked good.
Played some neat attacking football regardless of the fact that we had a below-average opponent.
What I really liked was the fact that we've got a promising striker in Di Santo. His movements was really Crespo-like and he scored a typical poacher's goal.
This kid is really something, especially after finishing as top-scorer last season for the reserves when he just joined us a few months before.
Deco and Bosingwa looked decent despite the fact Bosingwa had to be carried off for an injury in the 1st half.

Looking good fellas. Don't know if we'll sign anymore players tho, we've been strongly linked with Robinho, but so far nothing solid or convincing.

Cheers

Yeah I watched the game Zakov, plus I saw todays game too against the Blades. I agree that the formations and tactics are refreshing to see at last. Some great attacking football and it flowed smoothly.

Nice 7-0 win today and the performance was even better than the 4-0 win in the previous game. Deco's vision and passing is great to see. He constantly plays through balls that disect the defence so neatly. As you said, the opposition hasn't been world class but still a nice warm up before we reach Russia for some more games with a little more edge.

All proceeds from the Chinese tour are going to the rebuilding of football facilities in Sichuan Province, after the most recent earthquake there.

yeah, after posting, i soon realized that we managed a 7-0 over Macau side Chengdu Blades(i think thats the name.)
Its nice to hear that we're doing charity on this visit to Asia, instead of just selling shirts and providing rich entertainment as far as goals are concerned. :D
Joe Cole and SWP(lol, don't know if he meant that awesome header) scored sick goals today, the one from Joey was reminiscent of Zola's backheel flick a few years back.
Pre-seasons looking good. Hope we continue this form and take it into the opener against Pompey.
Bosingwa is out of that game btw, seems like he'll be missing for 3-4 weeks, I reckon.
I agree with yer, we'll have a tougher test in Russia, I suspect another hammering for the Malaysian NT. We won big there a few years back in the EPL Asia Cup, I think.

Essien seemed a little out of place in the DM position, I wonder who will hold that position down Obi or Essien. Since Essien has been playing on the right most of his time at Chelsea he seems more comfortable there plus hes always drifting from side to side and up. I wish we'd kept Diarra for some reason Essien can play on the right and I wouldn't want Mikel to be ruined by playing DM all the time his real position is AM.

Essien didn't play at DM, Mikel did. Well at least in the 1st match(against Guangzhou) he didn't. But if we got Mikel, Essien's likely to be placed on the Right Midfield. I agree about Mikel's best position is AM but I think he needs to learn to control his tackle and lower his tendency to commit rash decisions, from there he'll truely mature into a great player. Lamps and Ballack aren't going to be there for much longer, the way I see it Mikel is the future of Chelsea.

Michael Essien is one of the best box-to-box central midfielders in the world. It would be a shame to nullify his attacking nature by making him a winger and asking him to cross....WTF? I find that THAT is a horrible role for him to play. Even by playing him as a DM, you are holding him back far too much. He can become one of the next great AMs if the shackles are loosened........

you don't get it, he's not given a wide midfield position, if you've seen his games where he's played when Frank or Ballack are not available its part of a 3 man midfield, and he tracks back and attacks to the right side of midfield not wide right. He leaves the wide part open so the full-backs can get involved. When he's attacking he's more likely to cut inside as I've never seen him actually made a cross from a wide position.
He's a right footed player so it makes more sense. And usually the three man midfield is diamond shaped so rotation does happen with Frank or Ballack taking turns attacking and defending along with Essien.

Ben Haim is about to go to Man City. Good luck to Tal. What Jose ever saw in him I will never know.

Joe Cole is about to sign up for another 5 years.:)

Looks like Chelsea are gonna give Frank the five year deal that he wants. Good decision IMO, as long as he sees out the contract. I wouldn't wanna lose Frank, so 1 extra year is a small price to pay to keep him.

Surprised that Anthony Grant is on his way to Southend United. I thought he had a future at Chelsea, and I'm surprised we have let him go. Perhaps Grant requested a move to enable him to play more first team football.

Drog has decided to do us all a favour by remaining at Chelsea. The fact that no other club made any serious enquiries regarding his availability, had nothing to do with the decision I suppose.

Scolari has said that Malouda's talent was wasted at Chelsea last season, and that he (Scolari), will use Malouda in his best position and will get him back to the form and potency that he had at Lyon.

He said, "Used in the correct way Malouda will be a very different player than the one that Chelsea fans saw last season. He was wasted and his game and his form suffered. This season he will amaze people with the things he will do for Chelsea."

I hope he's right.

Following the constant speculation over Sheva's future, Chelsea have officially let AC Milan know that Sheva is not for sale. Scolari is said to be amazed and surprised at the way in which such a talent as Shevchenko, has been wasted at Chelsea over the last 2 seasons.

"For a coach to have a natural goal machine at your disposal like Shevchenko is a blessing", he said. "I know what Shevchenko does best, he scores goals, and thats what he will be doing for Chelsea this season. I will use him like he should be used, to score many many goals for us. Why anyone would want to misuse such a talent is difficult for me to understand", he said.

Once again, I hope he's right.

The Asian leg of the pre season tour is over. 3 wins out of 3 and no goals conceeded. Morale boosting if nothing else. The team are playing some lovely football in these friendlies. Deco has been been very effective so far. He was a bargain at 8 million quid, and he had a great game against the Malaysian 11 team. Niko and Ashley scored for us in a 2-0 victory.

Next up is Russia, where the games will be a little more of a test for the lads. Looking forward to the games.

I guess this means no Arshavin? Anyway, I hope he's right, Sheva was one of my favorite players at Milan and I want him to be at his best for us, too. Same for Malouda and for all the players, really.

I'm disappointed at seeing certain players go, Maks, what a legend, hope he does well in PSG and retires with dignity. Boula, was hoping to see him play well for us, but, I'm sure Bosingwa won't disappoint, and suggesting that Terry and Ricky might is laughable, so it's definitely not a huge blow.

I really, REALLY wanted Tal to do well for us. He was good at Bolton, although I never thought he was nearly as good as our regular partnership. Still, I suppose it's best for him to go somewhere where he can play regularly, and there's more of a chance for that there.

Alright, I want this thing to start already, when's the first match?

first match of what? the Premiership season against Pompey or the next pre-season in Russia?

I'm glad to see Ben Haim go, I think we've got a decent center-half backup in Alex and we can grab one of the young reserve players for emergency backup.
I just don't think Ben Haim is as good as people think he is. For Bolton against mid-table and downward teams he was alright, but put him against the better teams and he'll struggle.

As far as other transfers are concerned I don't think there'll be anymore signings, Robinho, I don't know, I think he prefers staying in Madrid tbh.

I meant Premiership. And, frankly, I beg to differ on Tal. Let me remind you that he played well against us when he was at Bolton, and also played well against ManU. I can't remember if he fared well against the other big teams, but basically, he is capable of being in a top-flight club, but it might not be now, and it might not be Chelsea, who have the best centre backs in the world, IMO.

Zakov

Senior Squad
Well, thats just our difference in opinion since when I watched him at Bolton and he wasn't that much of a presence in defense to be honest, sure he didn't commit too many mistakes back then but he was woeful in the few games I saw him at Chelsea IMO.
Hmm, Schuster said he wanted to keep Robinho and word out according to the Madrid-based tabloid Marca is that CR will put a transfer request to join Leal Madleed.(hehehe, I heard Rafa Nadal said it that way XD)

We lost on penalties to Lokomotiv in Moscow, bit of a bummer there. Spectacular goal by Essien after some neat link-up play with Nic.
We dominated the match but conceded a late-equaliser(a great free-kick btw) and we lost it on penalties.
Hope it doesn't do too much on the player's confidence especially Sheva, who looks really like a man who doesn't have any.

The positive news is that we'll be playing against Milan, who I wanted to see us playing rather than Sevilla.(just wanted to see a Milan-Chelsea game for once :D)

Chelsea 5-0 Milan
Anelka x4, Lampard x1

All the goals:

YES!! Even if its just pre-season I'll take a 5-0 against Milan anytime.
What can I say? We were all disappointed with Niclas last season but he's looking like he's in devastating form. His pace and guile in front of goal is surely back to its very best.
But the fact that we played against a lower strength Milan who had an absolute $hite of a goalkeeper did compliment us a little bit and also they were missing Kaka.
But still, its a great win for us against one of the big teams in Europe.
tbh, out of the teams in Italy I probably like Milan the most, but they desperately need a new keeper and better defenders, it was just too easy for us in the end.(please don't get mad Deni)

Don't get all hyped about Anelka though, he scored one good goal, the others were Kalac's work.

Still, pretty good win, even though that wasn't exactly Milan lol

I'm still wondering; why Ancelotti isn't doing any moves to buy a classy goalkeeper?

Zakov

well, I'm not getting hyped about Anelka, being an Arsenal fan u surely know what he's capable of, the only problem is can he perform to his abilities on a consistent basis. Its not like he's an upcoming player, he's already established himself as a class act.

But judging from the pre-season games he was mostly involved in the goals we scored, his runs and link-up play has been good and its a positive sign for us. Last season he was played out of position most of the time, and that horrible last penalty was the reason he got slagged off by us in the end.
Its up to him to prove himself here.

But yeah, it is agreed that Kalac was absolute $hite. :D

:) I can't get mad at you, and i have recently been fed (after a long time) so i'm in a good mood hahahaha :) , and also you're right in everything, Kalac can't be our first choice, but Abbiati and the fact we seem to have bought Felipe kinda cheers me up, Abbiati was brilliant in both Trofeo TIM and Against Sevilla, As for the defence i agree mostly but i also think that it would be unfair to buy some world class defenders while Maldini is still around cause one of Kaladze or Bonera would have to leave.
It is kind of a downer to loose to this margin in the preseason and i say kind of because most of our top players didn't play (Nesta, Kaka', Borriello, Inzaghi, Pato, Ronaldinho, even Seedorf played only 30 mins) Without an attack, we couldn't pose a threat nor we could even hold possession nor make your players alert and more focused on defence, i expected you guys to score this much, but all i can say is that for us this tournament was just unnecessary to play.

Cause we have a Keeper that was one of the best in the world not so long ago, and because Kalac showed last season that he can perform, today he was bad but also unlucky, people tend to put everything in the same basket when they see one mistake, but ok i agree that he isn't fit to be Milan's #1, but i believe that Abbiati is and if you would have seen the game against Sevilla and in the Trofeo TIM you'd think that too, also if Dida doesn't recover from his shoulder injury and doesn't recover his form he should be out next summer and Felipe will come in his place and be Abbiati's understudy, i believe that's enough.
