Errmmm yeah, i agree with most of your posts.

Last year I managed to beat the hell out of legendary level with scorelines like 3-0 to 4-0 however I still felt like it was enjoyable, well not because I scored a lot and sure to win but because the opposition did seem somewhat human and realistic.

This year is different, I'm currently world class level and the computer is having some kind of godlike goalkeepers. Apart from what all of you guys have mentioned above, another thing is that I could never even foul the opposition until this player gets near my box. And once I foul him, that's it, he'll score no matter how hard I try to get my wall to block his shot.

And there is this fact:
- If you're having a 0-0 result, the CPU will one way or another shatter your defense by using through passes (which we could actually have been able to stop but somehow on world class we can't because our players' movements are delayed) or a cross to the striker who suddenly appears from nowhere. Once your defense is shattered, the striker will 85% beat the crap out of your goalies easily, leaving you behind.
- Now that you're a goal behind, they may score another one very quickly while you can't even control your players in time to catch up with their build-ups (which for me only applies to world class level). Whether or not they score a goal at this stage, you'll still be behind so their characteristic will change to become somewhat easier on you. However you'll still find it impossible to score because of their packed defense, anticipation of the ball (which is worsened because EA made human passes in world class level become so) and most importantly their GODLIKE goalkeeper.
- If you're luckily 1 or 2 goals ahead, this will be the most frustrating time for you. They'll start getting goals from freekicks after being (strangely) fouled near the box and once they're leveled with you, they'll start beating you up just like when it's 0-0.

All the above applies to me up until this point

So why dont you set difficulty level to World Class and goalkeeper to amateur? When I am beating the cpu, I am never allowed to win by more than 2 goals, they always score. I think F07 was more exciting because there were more goal opportunities. With F08, I am tired of 1-0 scorelines. The average number of goals in professional football is I think 2.4 goals a game, not 0.5!

Not True.

XBOX 360: Pro Level

Recently smashed an opponent 6-0 on manager mode.

Brentford (5 Stars) 6 vs. Grimsby Town (1/2 Star) 0

mate, the PC has different configurations. For any PC users, is there a setting where players just use their actual ratings?

"why dont you set difficulty level to World Class and goalkeeper to amateur?"

This is an interesting advice.Amateur/Semi-Pro goalies are way too easy to beat, but (In professional, i don't know, haven't tried it) in Professional/World Class, it's almost impossible. So, which one is better?

Btw i was quite surprised today, like always, i played against World Class difficulty, and World Class goalie, and i won 6-1 :)

I must say I understand and agree with all of you. I play on Professional difficulty, both CPU and GK. Most of the times I lose or win by one goal and my games look like a blind battle or a ping-pong match at midfield. Other times looks like the CPU passes are taken from hockey, they're through passes are so fast and accurate and I can't do nothing to stop them. My team then is just dazed and confused, like the song tells. What to say more about the goalkeeper? Even in practice he wants to be invincible!
But other times, like the last matches I've played, even Lyon looks like Sunday Pub team. I've beat Lyon with Sporting with 11-1, on 6 min. All goals and build-up was amazing, like FIFA 07 never was(I don't mean more spectacular, but different and more realistic - joga bonito :D).

What seems to be the secrets? As far I realised, are these:

1. Don't play how you use to in FIFA 07.

2. Change your tactic during a match according to the momentum and the players distribution on the field of both teams. Let's say you face a team with fast wing players and a midfield maestro. The CPU will use they're atributes and you will see a lot of through and lobed passes. Put defensive tactic OT and FB - your team will let them very often in offside and they're momentum will get low because of the insucces of the passes.

3.A good team always start with a good momentum and will attack. Let them come in your half, let them play they're hockey and ping-pong, and prepare this trap: select CA and, according to the atributes and distribution on the field of your midfielders and strikers, WP or third man release. When you intercept the ball start your blitz counter-attack.

4. At this point, you must know how to move and how to touch the buttons to have succes. Don't hold sprint, if you want to gateaway, just tap sprint intermittently, hold the ball at your feet till a opposite player get's near and then release the ball(pushing hard and short pass button), to a team mate which is near, not far. Don't rush to much, play gentle, give time to your team mates to find good positions. You will see soon 1 to 3 being free: to one of them you must pass(push hard and a little bit longer the pass button).

5. Now that you have a opportunity to score you must know how to beat the keeper. When you don't have the best position and you are outside the box, think that the point you want the ball go into the net is a team mate: hold the stick into that direction and push long and soft or short and hard(these are 2 types of shots, you'll see), and after the ball was released, still holding the direction stick, right when the bar is getting filled(not at maximum), make a rapid curl with the stick. Practice and you'll start to see some screamers and a mad god. The most important thing seems that you must be cool, composed, not afraid that you might lose the ball or furios because you can't beat the keeper, play with patience and calm and the results will be very pleasant: a fluency and elegance of play as only the big teams know how to show.

6. When you feel your team has a good or bad momentum(the passes go well and you dominate or they go wrong and you are dominated), change the mentality accordingly, attacking or defensive.

7. When you choose PR(def), WP-BO(att) and attacking mentality you can play very fast, with many one-to-one passes, crosses and the shots seems to be more powerful.

8. When you are one-to-one with GK choose a direction and push twice and very fast the shoot button.

9.Choose direction and hold both Q and W(I have a different configuration on my gamepad, and I tell you the buttons from the keyboard), till the long and high ball reach your furthest player(if he's not missing, drinking a beer with fans or whatever).

10. When you control a long shot player, doesn't matter where you are on your opponent half, hold the stick a little bit further then you were holding it when you just run, and power up a shot:sometimes you score some amazing goals from distance.

11.When you have a free-kick in your half, near the midfield line, power up a lob, don't stop holding it, and play with the ball in air, to fool the keeper.I've scored at least 3 goals this way:holding simultaneously the direction ahead and the lob button, when the ball is coming down to the goal switch to a different direction and push shoot button. The keeper expects dumbfounded the ball which goes in.

Excuse me for this long and maybe not so clear expressed post.
If you find this tips useful or you know some more, or you just simply don't agree with them: post comments and other or better tips. Let's discover the bright, real, side of this game. ;)

I agree with most of you. I just had a real annoying match where the CPU cheated like no cpu has cheated before... Juventus (me) against Milan, the CPU got a penalty for nothing really (and after losing the ball because of a sudden freezing player). Scored 1-1, then another cheap goal right through my defense, 1-2. After this, the game just prevented me from scoring. Two absolutely great chances hit the post, or attackers shoot wide miserably, in the 85th minute with Trezeguet I shot a penalty over the bar! I didn't press the buttons else than usual. I like a challenge but this is ridiculous.

Other anoying things:
-Superfast cpu defenders, a low speed player outruns my 90 speed player
-when pressing the shoot or pass button nothing happens, especially in scoring position, or way too late.
-sometimes it looks like the game just screws up the controls and always selects the wrong player to control sp the cpu looks like to be playing wonderfull. Also shooting and passing is crap then. This was also a bad thing in Fifa07.

The good side is that EA probably hears about all the complaints so Fifa09 is going to be a killer game :)

I am using a tactical strategy to eliminate that cheat the cpu uses:

Since the game begins, lets say the cpu has possesion of the ball, you have to go pressing to their players with your attackers, midfielders, defenders. The key is that as soon as they have the ball, you have to be there bothering them, and not let them think,(just like Boca Juniors played in the recent Copa Libertadores, where they were always going to the opponent half to put pressure on them), if they pass the ball to another of their teamates, switch to another of your players and chase the opponent, and always trying to anticipate, so you have to sprint a lot to be there, so you must have quick fingers on your keyboard or gamepad, so you can switch quickly.

Then, when you are in possesion of the ball, trying to do the same: attack fast, do quick passes so you surprise the cpu.

But the key as I said before, it's the pressing when the cpu has the ball.

I have tried this playing against a lot of good teams of the likes of Arsenal, Milan and the Classic XI, and this strategy totally beats them.

I am using
Game difficulty: world class
Keeper difficulty: semi-pro

Wow Im glad to see Im not the only one. I too was a regular World Class user of 06 and 07 both and found them too easy. Now I am being humbled on Pro mode. Scoring good goals is impossible, and even scoring 1 scrappy goal per match is very hard. This wouldnt be so bad if some 55 rated striker on the opposing team wasnt dribbling through your defense as if they were statues and then 9 times out of 10 sliding one past your keeper.

Also on offense the shooting is poor, AI runs are poor and accuracy of through balls is horrific. I've yet to start a career because I wanted to "adapt" but I think i'll be uninstalling instead, unless NK or someone else can drastically change the game as is.

I think I have found a solution. I have been experimenting with cpu v cpu and I think I see how it works. When you are about to play a game, you arrive at the controller select screen. The next step you make helps the game decide whose players will be manual attributes and whose players will be cpu world class attributes. If you choose, say, the home side you then go through to the line up select screen.it is this step that the game decides to apply attributes. Human control has its own set of attributes that differ according to the game difficulty also, just like the cpu. BUT if I, say, choose the away team first, go into its line up select screen BUT then jump back to controller select and then swap over to the home team, you play against a cpu that is far less perfect, seems to be closer to the actual default ratings of the players and the game is more realistic. It is as if you trick the game into thinking you will play as one team and so it gives normal player ratings and attributes to the opposition first and then you sort out your own team.

I play cpu v cpu all the time, I prefer it a la manager mode and done like this all of the complaints of the others do not happen. I used this for F06 and F07. If I use visual sim and only arrange the line up for say the home team, the cpu untouched away team show all the annoying traits that people are talking about. I have been doing this to try and get some kind of home advantage for my visual sim competitions and although I go to the line up page for the away team, I dont change them at all but make minor adjustments for the home team to improve them. Try it and you will see that it definately works.

You know what, I just tried this and it seems to work, so you are definitely onto something here. I don't have much time to play the game and pretty much restrict myself to one off games playing as Man City vs. United. This time I selected United and then once the game was loaded changed the controller back to City. THis time the game was much more flowing, there were not the usual Tevez Rooney and Ronaldo dribbling through my entire defence, no more weak shots rolling under my keeper for a United goal, and more spaces for my players to run into since the United players werent able to sprint back at superhuman speeds once I gained possession of them. If there was some way of making the CPU always use the actual settings of the players, then that would be great, because at the moment I amtired of Scholes being able to muscle Hamaan off the ball, Carrick being able to catch up to Petrov, and unrealistic **** like that.

its very tough to play fifa08 in world class. But I've found kinda solution. When u start any match press 2,4,8,6 of num pad to set ur teams mentality to attacking plus defensive pressure. now when u have the possession keep passing between ur centre backs now check ur radar. The strikers are on the same line as the line of oppenets now hit q+w for the long through ball. U need a striker who is quick & a good finisher. this is the easiest way of opening up the defence. Now in 1on1 hit q+d for finishing.

d will be the shoot button?

and q?

In fifa07 Q+D was for chip shot.
In fifa08 this combo is for sidefooted finishing. Ur striker will try to find the bottom corner of the net
