I think those changes are fantastic and it will benefit both competitions, especially the UEFA Cup which will become VERY similar to the Champions League in the sense that the first round will be the group stage and the groups will be formed of 4 teams that will all play home and away against each other instead of the ludicrous format that exists now. UEFA Cup matches will also be played on weeks that Champions League matches aren't going on, so we will have European competition on alternating weeks the entire season (Y).

As for the CL changes, the main competition will be left the same but the qualifying system will be changed slightly to allow some smaller nations chances to qualify. It's funny, I find myself this season wanting to see Fener or Shackhtar matches more than the same old Liverpool vs. Porto or Barca vs. Werder. Those smaller clubs are really starting to be entertaining (Y)

PS: Intertoto Cup will be done with, good riddance.

yes but thats because Lucescu is at Shaktar (H)

Actually no, this is the only season where I've actually wanted to voluntarily watch one of their matches simply because they have some super players like Brandao and Lucarelli. Lucescu is a f*cking douche don't get me started on him.

By the way the games that I'm most excited about coming up on Matchday 6 are:

Liverpool - Marseille
Schalke - Rosenborg
Olympiakos - Werder Bremen
Shakhtar - Benfica
Rangers - Lyon
Fenerbahce - CSKA Moskow

Out of all those teams I'd say only Liverpool and Lyon count as elite teams of Europe and I personally think all of those games are going to be fantastic since all of them will decide what squads go through to the next round. Too bad ESPN will probably show only 1 if not 0 out of all those games for some meaningless Barca or Real match (:/)

PSV - Inter is one of them. PSV need to win to progress but I think it'll be a good match no matter what.

Real Madrid - Lazio is very much a win or lose game. If Lazio win, Real will be knocked out due to the head-to-head.

Interesting changes to say the least. But how are they gonna split the first knockout phase over 4 weeks?

Which Barça match have ESPN (in the USA) show that did not involve a British team? I think you mean "some meaningless Man Utd or Chelsea match" ...

as for Real Madrid, once Beckham left, the appeal for ESPN (in the USA) to show them has gone away ... has come this way ... to America ... Beckham ... umm, you know what I mean ...

I have ESPN Deportes so I don't only get the coverage from ESPN 2 but I get the Deportes matches as well which ALWAYS involve Barca and Madrid.

That Rangers - Lyon match would probably be a good one, as they're fighting for the second place, should be a tight, tough match for both.

Also, if you don't like ESPN's matches, use sopcast or some other program and watch some streaming football on your computer. http://www.myp2p.eu/ is a good site for that.

The changes are good and gives teams from outside the "big five" nations a chance, though (in my opinion) I still think UEFA should have gone one further and not give 3rd placed teams in the Champions League groups a parachuting to the UEFA Cup.

Intertoto Cup, haha good riddance, I remember when UEFA first commissioned it, it got shunned by a lot of teams, it only got more interest just because Bordeaux played in it, qualified for the UEFA Cup and got all the way to the final! (H)

I think, these changes wil make Big Clubs pay attention on national cups and these changes are good for such countries like Ukraine, Czech republic or Scotland

The only united games i've ever seen on ESPN are CL games. FA cup and Prem league are contracted to be shared between Setanta and FSC. ESPN couldn't show those games even if they wanted to. And as for carling cup, well, no one cares about the carling cup.

It's nice to have those changes.
Both CL and UEFA Cup needed improvement.
It's not really entertaining to see one and the same teams every damn year.
I'd rather watch Artmedia turing Porto from 0-2 to 3-2 playing away at Dragao, instead of highly tipped games by Milan, which i usually fall asleep to. :D

As of UEFA Cup - the current format was bad.The new one shoud be better although 48 teams are a too many to secure a quality tournament.

As of the 5 pots secured for leagues with lower coefficient - well, damn yes! Surely those pots belong there, even more teams should be given the shot to play there. I couldn't care less, that Arsenal/MIlan/... may not play in the league. Well, damn striahght they won't unless they haven't performed accordingly in their home league the previous year. After all, CL is the succesor of the european cup, where only the champions belong. It's simply not fair to let 4th team from Italy to play there, instead of the champions of Switzerland/Bulgaria/Norway/Austria/Denmark/...
After all, the money goes into "David Dean & Co"'s pockets, which is ALL ONE TO ME ;)
