Manchester United Update:
Finally, the first season with United is over... With about 10 games left, MU was in second, 4 points behind Newcastle, who were looking unstoppable. MU's 3-2 victory over Newcastle drew the lead to only 1 points, but Newcastle still had the title in their hands, and it was theirs to lose. Both teams won every game until it got down to the last two games of the season. MU vs. Arsenal, Newcastle vs. Aston Villa, Newcastle vs. Liverpool, MU vs. Blackburn.
MU: 1, Arsenal: 0. A loss or tie in this match would mean that the season was just about over. It was a tight match against the 4th place Gunners, and they seemed determined not to allow a loss at Highbury. A late flourish led to a United corner, taken by C. Ronaldo from the right, played in the center to Rooney who was battling with Campbell. Neither Rooney nor Campbell could get hold of the ball with their head, but it bounced off of Rooney's back, towards the penalty line, where Jerome Rothen struck a ball that rang the post, and bounced into the back of the net. GOAL in the 90th minute! As soon as play restarted, the whistle blew.
Newcastle: 0, Villa: 1. This upset meant that United had the lead by 2 points with only one game to play.
Newcastle: 2, Liverpool: 2. This match ensured that United would win the league!
MU: 2, Blackburn: 0. In this game, Giggs was appointed the captain with Rio Ferdinand being rested. Giggs' career is nearing it's end, and I could find no better way to pay tribute than to give him the armband. In the 30th minute, Giggs made a great run, but was taken down at 25 yards. His free kick was a low scorcher that shaved the post before hitting the back of the net. Giggs would later setup a headed goal from Rooney, with a brilliant move on the flank which led to a cross. Giggs was taken off in the 85th minute to a cheering crowd at Old Trafford
WE WON THE EPL!
