Canada U20 vs Brazil U20

Canada WON 2-1.

******* great performance against a Brazilian team that had Kerlon(even though he got injured in the game).

Will Johnson and Jaime Peters shreded the Brazilians and I was also impressed with Kennedy Owusu-Ansah.

This was the first of a three match series with Brazil.

yeah it was a friendly, but nevertheless it was a good win.. and not only did the Canadian boys win, but they even dominated for large parts of the match. Meaningless or not, it's an encouraging result for Canadian soccer fans.

anyhow, for those who care... I have to say Jaime Peters was amazing in that game, seeing him dribble past the Brazilian defenders and leave them way behind with his speed bursts was a great sight. I'd love to see him leave the Ipswich reserves and come out for Toronto FC, he could really make a name for himself in MLS if he continues to improve. Great goal by David Edgar too, a world class volley at any level.. (Y)

I got to watch the 2nd half of it, fantastic game (Y)

Peters and Johnson just ran ****. Peters with his amazing speed and Johnson with his incredible power, he was shrugging players off left and right. although Peters needs to improve in the final 3rd, his crosses aren't the best, but the passes he was giving, beautiful (Y) and Johnson needs to improve finishing, he scored a tough half volley but couldn't finish on 2 breakaways. still a bright player nonetheless.

and how about that clearance off the goal line with about 5 minutes left. not sure who it was, but I almost had a heart attack... for a friendly :(

why are they playing 3 games?
Good for Canada...BAD news for Brasil...

Oh c'mon.. Don't tell me you except the U20's to go unbeaten forever. Every team loses sometime.

Kennedy Owusu Ansah really impressed me at rightback. He was good defensively and made runs up the field. He's a local Toronto kid and Toronto FC should sign him.

And it was Stephen Lumley who cleared the ball off the line. The future looks really bright considering that there was no Jonathan De Guzman, Jacob Lensky was resting and Portugal stole Steven Vitoria.

I'm really disappointed Chicago couldn't hold on to Will Johnson. It's unfortunate, because Generation Adidas is only for American players and it's not helping us keep young foreign players in MLS. I wonder if Toronto will have their own version of Generation Adidas with Canadian players.

steven vitoria hasn't been used by any level of Portuguese soccer. Same goes with U-16 Canadian player Michael Pereira. Both Playing for Porto.

I think canada missed out on a really great Gk in Daniel Fernandes, the starter for Paok in Greece and playing for Portugal in the U-21

BTW great game yesterday

slowsilver-
there are some teams that Brasil should never lose to....especially at that yound age.
I like how Brasil gets humbled every now and then, so that these young players dont all think they are Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. But getting dominated aganist Canada is not good for Brasil. At least this wasnt a tournament...

btw, when is the next game? will it be on american tv?

The next game is on Monday I think. You have to pay around $6.00 to watch it on a streaming webcast. Then they play again on Thursday which will be on Sportsnet. I'm not sure they're showing it on American TV.

I'm pretty sure we'll lose the next two games in the series as I'm sure the Brazilians will be a bit more careful now and not take us so lightly. Still, it'll be good experience for the Canadians..
