saw it last night... honestly, I was expecting like a 12/10, but I got an 8/10 :( sure it was hilarious at times, but all the real funny stuff had already been done in his show, and in comparison most of the stuff in the movie was pretty average. but that wrestling scene with Azamat... my God :| :D

Feel exactly the same way. I watch the show a lot and the humor is much the same, and on top of that the preview and commercials I knew 25% of what was coming. The only real new thing was the wrestling which was just as disgusting as funny. Still it was great and for those of u who think it's just stupid u should watch Carlos*ass 2 first. Sacha Baron Cohen is really clever in how he created the characters, and really brave in how he does that stuff like go to a rodeo and say that to some of the most patriotic Americans in the country, seriously those guys were about to KILL him.

I felt the exact same way. It's very funny, but it's definitely not the "funniest movie ever".

uh oh. That has caused my impressions on this movie (yet to have watched it) to drop massively, cuz Shifty you've always branded it as "gonna be the funniest movie ever".

its pretty damn funny its just that if you pretty much have every episode memorized like myself it's not all that. a lot of the jokes are repeated, and my main beef with the movie that probably half of the stunts were all acted out.

it was a good experience watching it though, the theater was full and pretty much everyone laughed non stop the whole time.

This is probably the main reason why I said what I said. I was talking to someone who never watched Da Ali G Show, and she LOVED the movie. I told her that it was very funny, but just okay and she thought I was insane. Then we went through about 20 hilarious scenes. It's very funny, it's just that not all the jokes are completely original and when the entire movie is driven by a character and he repeats stuff you've seen before, it's just not AS funny as if you have never seen Borat before.

The previews spoiled a few of the gags too.

The funniest part in my opinion was when he went to the hotel after talking to a bunch of black guys.

The nude fight was sooooo disturbing that i just had to laugh.

Oh there was also a very old couple sitting right beside me and 10 minutes into the movie, after they saw like 10 racist attacks on jews, the couple just got up and left. Thought i would just throw that in there, don't even know why now though.

My liberal translation of the reason of the ban: "...contains materials that may provide pejorative attitude towards some nationalities and religions..." :D

Looks like it is the first ever non-porn movie banned in Russia, btw.

And also, it's banned only for the distribution through the cinema. It will be available on DVD.

I feel the same as yall, it wasn't too original but it was still damn funny. The funniest parts had to be when he was wrestling with that fat dude in the motel room and when he was being "saved" by the evangelicals.

Yeah but do they sell Borat on DVD there already or they wait until the good version comes out? Because in Belarus you could find the pirated VHS version anywhere, right after the official movie premier.

They do, but it lacks quality and the translation is poor. Good quality version will be able a bit later, when our pirates get a good dvd-rip :fool:
