@Exerslow you said you didn't try any of the gameplays, try them, they pretty much cover up all you enumerated as far as it is possible to do in the Fifa environnement anyway.

@Duong The current keeper behaviour is the closest I could get to the real thing, sometimes he will come out too soon making an easy goal by lobbing him or passing to a free man with the goal empty but that happens in RL also, I don't like keeper supermen. But sometimes he will save a likely goal by coming out that way, I often had him get the ball out of my feet when I was surprised that he charged out of his goal, should he have stayed on his line, double shot tap and bam goal as in standard gameplay but now it didn't go like that.

Maybe you will have noticed that when you press a lot the CPU defense will start to put balls in the stands to get it out asap of the box, that's panic mode I activated, but it is for the keeper also, sometimes he will flip and come out like a madman, that's the downside. I try to finetune his behaviour but he will either become too similar to what he was, iow a brick wall who stays on his line even if he could come out and make the shooting angle a lot more difficult, or the Mad Max that will start chargin out if an attacker gets the bal behind the defense even if I change him a bit from the current values, so I think he will remain as he is for now (maybe in next version that will change)

@Avok thanks for the compliment on my sound packs, it's what I like to make the most, I wish someone else would do this also because I don't plan on making chant packs for all fifa teams though hehe

@Ockham I prefer spectacular football, iow straight forward attacking play, so I guess that reflects in my settings. I prefer a 3-3 draw over a 0-0, there are more goal attempts (long range shots), and more break throughs from the top players (Henry, Sheva, Trezeguet, ...) as the values for the players inside the db became more important. You should try my gameplay with the Serie C1 teams from the CEP though, it's often only 1-0, 1-1 or 0-0 because those players have lower characteristics, so there are far less goal chances for them.

@all Version 1.1 will likely come somewhere in february, planned changes aree changes in career mode, slightly higher ticket prices (much requested), a squad needs now less players to be able to do transfers (much requested)

I will likely be assisted by another fifa editor who contacted me by pm on another board and wanted to make a "joint" gameplay mod, I played his and I liked some features that were lacking in mine and vice versa, this is not a certainty yet but if this project sees the light it might be interesting to see what we come up with.

@ slow gameplay create a situation.ini file in your main fifa folder and type in capitals
GAME_SPEED= 50 //50-80 IF U R DEPERATE. OR JUST SIMPLY SET GAME SPEED TO FASTEST

    Billy,

the gameplay is pretty good. The issues that really stand out are the CPU is still way too accurate passing the ball. The teams I have faced so far have all had over 90% pass accuracy. With me having 85% pass accuracy. The CPU also still gets outshot by a huge margin. Typically around 10-4.

Is there any way to get these percentages lower?

I have played 5 games using these teams

    me-----------------------cpu and pass %

    ac milan -----------------inter 91%
    werder bremen-----------kaiserslautern 95%
    vittoria setubal-----------porto 93%
    charleroi-----------------cercle brugge 91%
    fc superfund-------------red bull salzburg 92%

My next question to you is I saw in the common.ini that you had these kits as unlockables
    kit 110374
    kit 28
    kit 247
    kit 1842
    kit 55
    kit 1337
    kit 189
    kit 298
    kit 1838
    kit 456
    kit 57

I added those in to my unlockables in common.ini and in the FIFA.DB and they appear ingame as unlockable kits, but it says FILE NOT FOUND in the fan shop, and they are not selectable at the team menu when unlocked.

What is the deal with those kits?

Oops, I forgot to delete those from the common.ini in my config.dat gameplay as those are kits I created and added myself as third kits for teams that don't have them ingame, the first one is the fiorentina red kit, I know that number by heart. In fact you may safely remove them, those are remains I left behind :)

For Fifa2005 it was necessary to add those in the common.ini but for Fifa06 adding them to the table_unlockables and adding the graphic in a new zdata is enough, those 11 kit numbers are the first ones I added, I have over 50 added as new third kits now I guess. (just added the blue Feyenoord kit as a third one even today)

As for the pass accuracy I guess you played on a difficulty setting higher than pro? Try to play on semi-pro (just to compare pass accuracy) it will be a lot lower. I can make them dumber on higher levels also and make them miss more passes but some people already complain that even my legendary setting is too easy, on the other hand I had people complain my pro setting is too hard :/

I guess it's impossible to please everyone in a gameplay mod, as I said from my first posts it's really a matter of personal taste and playstyle.

actuall passing accuracry is dependent on cpu attacking rate. most of the time they just do GROUND_PASS_SAFE. it does my head in when i tried to fix it so i reduced normal passing to 10 percent and thru balls to 70 percent in my game. lobs acount for the other 20

    Thanks billy.

And yeah Avok that is the problem.

THe CPU loves the ground pass. It's accuracy with the ground pass is almost 100%.

If there was a way to make the CPU try more through balls, through lobs, hoofs upfield, etc. that would help detract from the ground pass amounts dictating the overall pass accuracy.

That seems like more than a tweak to the AI settings. Seems like a fundamental AI programming error/oversight.

Also, to add to the above, the CPU attack threat is anemic. Before and after the gameplay tweaks. This too is down to programming.

The CPU will Brazil it up with the ground passes but never truly threaten with a run and a through pass. Closest they come is the cheap bit of down the side and the sometimes unstoppable CPU header on goal. The CPU also never seems to really understand how to exploit space with the dribble. Which means the human player can just pressure the ball and call in the 2nd defender until the CPU runs out of space and turns the ball over.

I think if I ever saw a CPU two man breakaway or long ball in to a striker on the break I would freak out.

The CPU loves to be deliberate and that leads to fewer true chances because the CPU won't shoot unless they are wide open. And when they don't break out or quickly counterattack or long ball it in, they rarely get clear chances on goal.

I think you just summed up the limitations of the AI itself, someone forward that post to the EA developpers please :)

Actually, I was playing Milan in a UEFA Cup game and was leading when Kaka hit Shevchenko for a breakaway....I couldn't believe it, I tried to bring the keeper out but he beat me anyway!! I bet Billy would have been ecstatic, LOL!!

BTW, what do I use to open Config.dat. I know I can open the one in the game through Filemaster but what if I have one in another folder ...........I want to compare the gameplay setting between the mods.

Yep and instead of this occurence being as likely as spotting the Loch Ness monster, it should be exploited by the CPU until you adjust your defense to counter it.

More tactical situations would be fantastic. I would like to see awareness directly relate to things like defenders working the offside trap. To counter a quick offense you could run the offside trap but if you had some defenders who were low in awareness, this could seriously leave you vulnerable for over the top and through ball attacks.

Instead all teams seem to work the offside trap exactly the same with the only variable being the pace of the defenders themselves sometimes keeping players onside.

Hi Billy. I have recntly found a possible problem (but not too much of a problem) with the gameplay patch. The rest is great and i love the way the gameplay is. It's just this:

I was playing a match and one of my defenders got hold of the ball, so i pressed the lob button (A on the keyboard) to boot it upfield. It was going well, especially when i scored.
The problem was the goalkeeper watched it go in.

I found i was able to recreate this and scored these three goals (linked zipped replays) from around midfield or my own half.

This isn't much of a problem, but more of a reality check. It was the goalie watching it go in that made me laugh. I thought it was one-off at first but then discovered otherwise :)

    Here are the replays: Replays

In which difficulty mode did this happen? I tried to recreate it in pro but it didn't work, my keeper settings are different for each difficulty level, in the lowest settings they are real dumb but something like that shouldn't happen, you're the first person that makes this observation.

Anyway the keepers should be better in next version, I expect to release it somewhere in March with most requested changes, and bug-fix if I can pin down what makes the keeper react (or not react in this case) that way...

Yeah, i play in professional mode too. I realised those three actually occurred in the same match ending 5-0 (other 2 scored somehow) :)

But it did occur once before, and it was funny. I thought it was just a one-off.

    Cheers

I'm not sure if this has been talked about before, but what exactly are these keeper changes? Personally, I would like to see keepers stay in their net a little more but, as a trade off, maybe make it easier to beat them on the sides one on one. IF, and thats a big if, I have a gripe with your gameplay, its that the keepers can sometimes be TOO easy to beat with a lob over their head, and not easy enough to beat on a break just by putting it in the corner with a regular, well placed mind you, shot. Amazing gameplay though, cant get enough of it.

    Cheers

Well goalkeepers are one of the most difficult things to tune in gameplay, anyway I think so, only the ball gravity variables are even more difficult.

The problem is the testing time, each time you do the slightest modification you have to test it ingame, not in one match but in many matches, CPU vs CPU and player vs. CPU, if you want to get it perfect it can be a full time job, frankly I prefer making my sound packs :) If you change too many variables at once the general behaviour can change too much going from a kamikaze to a goal line camper...

What changed in my gameplay mod vs. original gameplay is that keepers are more aggressive now, a bit too aggressive even causing sometimes a goal by coming out too fast or too soon or both, it is also heavily CPU player skill dependend, Buffon from Juventus will close the shot angle far better than John Doe from Pavia could do it.

Still it can be frustrating if your goalie comes out too soon and costs you an easy goal, but still it is realistic imho, a keepers error often costs a goal in RL also. I admit they're a bit hard to beat on 1 vs. 1, anyway I'm going to try tune the stuff even more for the next version, however I don't know when it will be ready as these days I prefer more playing Fifa than editting it :) I'll get to it when I get in creative mode again :)

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it a lot.
