yea they must win that match, but schalke will be a tough team to beat. hows kuranyi doing there anyway? you guys think he will ever make the NT again?

Riquelme is overrated. He doesn't show up in big games.

Magath let them do stair running right before the game, no wonder they were tired in the second half. And Urawa are not a bad team either.

Karimi and Roque looked horrible out there. It's too early to rate dos Santos yet but meh, he has problems to keep up with the speed.

Hargreaves on the other hand was the best player on the pitch, very comfortbale with the ball.

I think we could see this midfield once Lucio or Ismael are back and Demichelis moves back to DM. With Pizarro's injury there's no room to try out Podolski behind the strikers.

-------- Micho ------

Brazzo --------- Schweini

-------- Owen -----------

Last year he was so bad that he got booed by his own fans. (H) But of course he can make it to the nt again, he's still just 24.
Schalke have reunited the Altintop twins.

bayern have everything to be up there with milan, chelsea or barca.
but hell, they didn't want to pay more than 18M€ for Deco when he was 26 and one of the damn best players on the planet. Now they where willing to pay the same amount of money for RVN, who is past his prime but speaks german fluently, which seems to be one of the most important assests of bayern signing [elber, ismael, van buyten,makaay,...]. their transfer policy is a joke, they just buy "gestandene bundesliga spieler" or unproven south americans for 500k.

I agree with everything here (took out the last bit), but Deco is not that good. He disappears completely, and just on Barcelona there are 3 central midfielders that I would rather have. I hear people tell me all the time "oh, but he just controls the game", but I'm still baffled as to how exactly he does this when he doesn't touch the ball much and when he does he doesn't do anything remarkable with it. I wouldn't be surprised to see him riding a little bit more pine this season now that Xavi is back to full strength.

We are off topic now, but anyway.

I coincide with ShiftyPowers, Deco is not that great. In fact some romours stated that he was going to leave Barcelona because the club wanted to get Lampard.

Van Bommel is also another guy who is candidate for leaving Barca, Bayern wanted this guy but im not too convinced , he is not the same player he was in PSV. :nape:

well if you can trade one of the best for another, why not?
I still stand by may thoughts about deco, he's been incredible for porto, portugal and barca. he'd be the ebst in his position if he was a bit more consistent.

Other thing, when Deco arrived to Barcelona, he was the second option. As Ballack was the first, but Bayern didnt want to sell him.

I do not rate Deco so high as you, but thats my opinion.

well, i think it will be an interesting season for us. nobody expects anything in the Champions League, but i think that there is a bigger chance to enter the semi-finals than in the years before, because Hoeneß doesn't say that Bayern's aim is the Champions League trophy. I think that these fact is a big chance for us! It will be hard in the Bundesliga, Werder Bremen has a good squad, but i think they will beat themselves like every season (0:2 at home against Kaiserslautern in the past season i.e.)

Bayern won the league cup match against Schalke in penalties. 4 -1 .

It seems Rensing had a good night.

So now its against Bremen.

Bayern Munich - Schalke 04 0-0 (Bayern win 4-1 on penalties)

Bayern Munich: Rensing - Sagnol, Demichelis (Hummels 46), van Buyten, Lahm - Hargreaves – Salihamidzic (Scholl 70), Ottl - Schweinsteiger – Podolski (Santa Cruz 77), Makaay

Schalke 04: F. Rost – Varela (Abel 90), Bordon, Rodriguez, Kobiashvili - Hamit Altintop, Bajramovic - Özil (Boenisch 46) - Halil Altintop, Lövenkrands, Larsen (Heppke 67)

Goals: None

Penalties: 1-0 Scholl, Boenisch missed (save), 2-0 Hargreaves, Abel missed (over the bar), 3-0 Santa Cruz, 3-1 Lovenkrands, 4-1 Sagnol

Man of the Match: Owen Hargreaves

- Sagnol is vice-captain
- Mats Hummels, a 17 year old youngster, came on for Demichelis in the second half. We played a total of six current or former Bayern youth players
- van Buyten should replace Ballack's heading abilities at set pieces, he's amazing in the air on both ends of the pitch.

All the reamining home games in 2006 are already sold out. :rockman:

Van Buyten is doing great.

Meanwhile yesterday, HSV's new defense Kompany , made a mistake that gave Bremen the victory.

Kompany runs up a lot, much like Lucio, but on the goal he ran up at the wrong time.
He's still a great player.

Rensing is a great GK btw.

Bayern did really good on letting Owen go.He is as good a central midfilder as it can get. You gotta love his toughness.
Bayern has the best kit Adidas has done in years, not like that crap taplates they're using on our jersey. :nape:

Owen is really impressing me. I think we'll be fine with him filling in that center mid role, especially when he has Demichelis behind him instead of rubbish Ottl. Also, Brazzo was amazing in the first half. He won just about every tackle and looked very fresh and energized when moving forward. I think he'll be back to his best this season, making the right wing his position until Deisler is fully fit... if that ever happens.

thx for the link with the highlights. overall i think we looked weak with a number of missed opportunites. Rensing however is looking very promising.
