Roma-Cassano Meeting Soon
7/26/2005 8:02:00 AM
The Giallorossi want to offer a new contract to the young talent.
Roma have not given up hope yet on renewing Antonio Cassano’s contract as they are desperately trying to hold on to ‘Peter Pan’ instead of losing him next year on a free transfer.

The club has therefore decided to meet the player’s agent, Giuseppe Bozzo, and offer a 5-year deal at 4 million Euros per year. Cassano will most likely refuse the offer as other clubs can offer him a higher salary.

A lot also depends on the player’s willingness to stay in Rome, which after the incidents with the Giallorossi fans in this early part of the pre-season, the chances of Cassano remaining in the Capital city remain very bleak.

Wow, Totti said that Inter signing Pizarro was the best buy, and to be honest I agree with him. Pizarro is gonna be HUGE next season, especially with either Stankovic or Cambiasso next to him.

But since this IS the Roma thread, if Cassano doesn't accept the new deal then what's next? Will the club try selling him even if they can't get a replacement, or will he be kept to help the club finish as high as possible this season, and then let him go for free? I really think he should be sold cause Roma could use the cash next summer to rebuild and start fresh.

BTW are you guys barred from loan deals?

barred from all incoming transfers, including loans.

Roma did sign Nonda, so thats sort of a replacement. They should definately sell if they cant agree a new deal, but who'd be interested?

Roma ‘fail’ in Cassano talks Thursday 28 July, 2005
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Antonio Cassano’s future at Roma is still in doubt after contract talks are believed to have stalled yet again.

The Italian starlet has just one-year left on his current contract and the club are keen to tie him down to a new deal, rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Giallorossi chief Rosella Sensi had a two hour meeting with the player and his agent but no agreement was struck.

Cassano, a £20m signing from Bari in 2001, wants a five-year deal worth almost £18m in total wages.

Roma, who had initially hinted that they were ready to meet those demands in February, are now only said to be willing to offer him £11m over the same duration.

The two parties are set to meet again over the next few days but an agreement is unlikely to be reached given the economical difference.

Roma would ideally like to sell Cassano but their transfer embargo is currently blocking that alternative.

The Stadio Olimpico club can’t register any new players right now which means that Juve’s proposed player plus cash deal for the 23-year-old can’t take place.

Real Madrid, Milan and Inter are also likely to join the Turin giants in his chase should Cassano be available on a free transfer next June.

Chivu Commits to Roma
-----------------------------------------------------------
Roma star Cristian Chivu has confirmed his intention to remain at the club.

Internazionale have been strongly linked with the Romanian, but Roma have already insisted he will not be leaving.

Now Chivu has stated his desire to remain with the Giallorossi.

"There have been many rumours, but I've never said that I would leave Roma," said Chivu

"I can say I'm at Roma and I'm part of this group."
--------------------------------------------------------

so for like the 4th time he has said hes not leaving, so will the transfer talk about him stop

and finally, with roma's ban in a full effect, there really isnt much news coming from the roma camp in the middle of the transfer season (beside some training and totti saying to the press he thinks they can win lo scudetto), so the press will report anything, especially on cassano

with that being said in the juventus thread....................

Totti: Roma can win the title Friday 29 July, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roma are beset by problems and cannot reinforce their squad for another year, but Francesco Totti still believes they can be title contenders this term.

“Milan and Juventus are not the only sides who can battle for the Scudetto,” assured the Giallorossi captain in an interview with Italian television.

“Inter are also strong this year, but so are Roma. We can challenge right up until the end. I hope it will be a great season for myself and the team, especially as it is leading straight into the 2006 World Cup in Germany.”

The capital club is unable to bring in any new players until next summer due to FIFA’s transfer embargo, brought about as a result of Philippe Mexes’ disputed move from Auxerre last year.

It is possible that the arrival of Rodrigo Taddei, Cesare Bovo, Shabani Nonda and Samuel Kuffour – agreed before the ban but not officially registered until July 1 – will also be affected.

Coach Luciano Spalletti has been drafted in to resolve the crisis and the club today announced the new staff structure. Former boss Bruno Conti is now technical director, while ex-Roma legends Eusebio Di Francesco (team manager) and Antonio Tempestilli (in charge of organisation) are also appointed.

man im starting to feel bad for inter and how they always seem to screw up........................wait no i dont

well it will be a very sad day for all inter fans in vieri leaves, i think that could be the biggest mistake

i dont see how vieri cant coexist with adriano, he has coexisted with ronaldo, hernan crespo, gabriel batistuta etc i dont see how this could be a problem, and zac could still play with 3 strikers

---------adriano-----------------vieri----------------
----------------------recoba-----------------------
---kily-----c.zanetti-----stankovic-----vd medye-----
---favalli--cannavaro---materazzi---j.zanetti---
-------------------------toldo--------------------------

but that wont happen, i dont know how the midfield would really look but that was a guess,

its a shame, well i hope bobo doesnt leave, cause i dont wanna see him wearing black and white

My mother is a fan of my forum postings and she keeps a log of each and every one of 'em.....tis true.

Ok, anyway.

Bovo has been registered and Taddei should be soon as well.

Its gonna be hard for Roma next year. I hope Spalletti can bring something to the team. We play some great football and i know we are capable of top 6 with the squad that is in place right now. Players must keep their discipline.

even though its hard not to see Roma doing well You have to appreciate Serie A. I think the competition in this league surpasses premiership and spanish league.

A bit off topic but some man utd fans are asking for De Rossi. I follow United too but i want this team to stick together.

who cares about Madrid, Samuel could of refused to go there and play for ManU(for example). Inter showed him $$$ and voilà!!!

Capello didn't want to be killed by Roma fans so he said what they wanted to hear. :p

he said that b/c it's too easy to win here. He wanted a challenge.

Easy to say from your computer he should refuse and wait for a bid from man utd that was gonna come(from the sky maybe).."Who cares about the club that employs you"...thats cute.

and Capello said it, and he went against his word...simple as that, but its harder for a player to keep his word in this business, less so for a coach.

I love this...I remember in 2003/04 no one expected Roma to do anything. We were horrible in 2002/03 and managed a uefa cup spot by finishing in the finals of C. Italia - just like this year. Yet all we did was add a few players, had a good preseason and voila - we owned Serie A for 1/2 the year and eventually came second to a monster of a Milan team. This year Roma's back is against the wall with this FIFA ban, but we finally have a stable coach and it seems we're preparing for the season quite well. While Juve, Inter and Milan waste millions on players Roma will prove that sometimes in football money cant buy you wins (I wont go as far as to say Roma will finish 1st, but Roma will surprise the world).

Other teams may have $$ and a winning history but they'll never have the fan support of the Roman people. We are and always will be the team of the Capital, we dont have as many gloryhunting fans like Juve or Milan but we're by far the most passionate. Teams like Juve do not have a soul - after all if Juve was a mediocre team would they truly be the most supported team? Hell no - besides a winning history i dont see why else a person would be proud to support Juvemerda. Roma will always be a cut above the northern teams - a feeling, a passion, a way of life that only la maggica Roma can provide its tifosi - something that the northern teams will never be able to provide.

Even if we have another midtable season, as long as we're not Juventus, Milan, Inter and Lazio we have so much more reason to be thankful we are Roma fans. Roma might not have given us many titles, but theyve given us so much more than any team in italy can provide its fans. There arent many teams that can boast to have a captain who's favorite team as a child is the team theyre currently on. On top of that he's the best Italian player, and without a doubt top 5 in the world.

In conclusion.. che sara, sara, dovunque ti seguirem, per sempre ti sostirrem, che sara, sara

Forza La Maggica Roma!!!!! Daje Lupi!!

(If any one takes offense to this they can kiss my @$$, this is a Roma thread, if you dont like it leave)
