The Von Trapps
yeah, living in a fashion capital of the world, and living in a former Soviet state, that's the same  ...

and are you really comparing Waxtap's wages to PSG's? and that's not to mention: Ligue 1 > all Eastern European leagues combined ...

plus, lest we forget, Blaise is French ...

but to answer your question more directly: I think if you're a contender for the Champions League, living in a glamourous city, and are involved in high-profile derbies, earning bags of gold, I think you're at the highest level ...

That's ignoring the point. The fact that Paris is a better city than Donetsk to live in, that he earns more money there, or that Ligue 1 is better than the Eastern European leagues or that he is French doesn't mean the French league is at the highest level, which it clearly isn't.

PSG are only contenders for the CL on paper, they are not semi-finals calibre. High-profile derbies? High-profile where? In France? Yeah, the Tel-Aviv derby is huge in Israel. The Clasico, the big Prem match-ups, even Boca-River, are big, internationally followed match-ups. I don't even know who PSG's biggest rivals are. Is it Lyon? Marseille? And I don't, the common, non-French fan probably doesn't either.

The highest level means the most demanding level, the level where the best teams meet and where the best players play and the best match take place. Ligue 1 is, at most, 5th, and possibly even lower. A top player generally wants to prove himself and play at clubs which challenge for the highest honors, not purely for the titles themselves, but to prove that he has the ability to match the very best in his profession. Being a scholar at Oxford is not the same as being a scholar at the Parisian Polytechnic or whatever, no matter how great the city or the pay is.

The fact of the matter is, if Matuidi is truly as good as you say he is he should move to a better league. Arsenal, for example, might be a worse club in terms of squad ability, but they play at a better league and challenge for the CL spots every year, and would be a good place to prove his worth. He could go to a team that's guaranteed CL qualification for the next few years but if I were him I'd move. The French league will not become a top league in his playing career. If anything, it will go down, since the Portuguese league looks like it's going to leapfrog it.

Make America Great Again
For the record, I would absolutely not leave PSG for Arsenal, or even pick Arsenal over PSG if I was a free agent, but I can see why a player who values all those stupid things like "proving oneself at the highest level" and "competition" could. I could see how Schweinsteiger nearly went to Chelsea a few years ago or how Gotze could go to Arsenal.

I personally wouldn't (well, Gotze should leave, just not to Arsenal), but some athletes value different things. Not everyone is Wayne Bridge who refuses loans and transfers in order to pocket his fat City stacks on the golf course, even if that's how I would personally act.

As someone earning a living, if I had the ability to play anywhere, I might settle at somewhere like PSG and earn the cash, but as a footballer, I'd look to play against the best players in the most demanding circumstances.

Oh and tits.
I don't know much about Matuidi but a midfield player who is good enough a footballer with some power and can run like mad for 90 minutes would help us a LOT.

Now Gonalons-we are linked with him- I've read mostly good things about him. Captain of Lyon as well-under Remi Garde who knows a thing or two about being a top class pro. And from what I can remember he is strong as well as very good in the air. Not sure if he can run like mad or if he is more of a positional player or if he can be both but /Wilshere/Ramsey have a lot of energy. He is a better footballer than Capoue I read but not sure.

Honestly, we should sell all the young midfielders currently in the first team squad apart from Ramsey and obviously Carlos along with Diaby to make way for Gonalons or similar and a hard running midfielder on the cheap like Diame-or if this Gonalons is an energetic midfielder then a more conservative defensive midfielder who protects spaces. But just Gonalons I'd be happy with and all I'm hoping for.

Arteta is getting old too and shouldn't be playing every game. Without him defensively we are absolutely clueless in midfield in terms of positional sense-didn't help with Gibbs and specially Vermaelen clowning around forcing him to cover the left side too much- but he shouldn't play every game from next season. We need some energy and power/physical presence in midfield. Just look at clowns like Song and Diaby-they are brain dead but they balanced the midfield just because they were big.

Another thing is....could Vermaelen play holding midfield? He is a good footballer with good passing range. He can drop into central defense leaving the other holder and midfielder to deal with players ahead when needed. With defenders behind him his lack of awareness as a positional player might not be much of an issue. We could rotate between him and Arteta as the captain of the team playing with Gonalons. He is good at attacking the ball aerially and him with Gonalons would clear a lot of high balls in midfield.

I think the EPL has more influence than you think, look at the moves to QPR and Newcastle

I would think you're an idiot, but some footballers do think this way.

If Matuidi left PSG for Juventus, Munich, Chelsea, Manchesters, Barca or Madrid you would think him an idiot?

Apparently we have signed young French striker Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre for free.

He is 17 or something.

Afobe's Arsenal career could be pretty much over after that injury- Poor kid. Everyone said he was a good kid and could make it. So signing a young striker makes sense. Didn't cost a fee.
