Problem with avian flu is that people will ignore it until it happens. By then, it's too late. It's a very real problem. As highlighted by the OTT media coverage.

Fact remains, if that becomes a person-to-person disease, humanity is a bit ****ed.

1919 - Spanish flu. Killed millions. Killed millions before the days of air travel. Couple the infectious nature of the virus with a well-timed holiday to Bermuda, and it's somewhere else before you even know you've got it.

At the moment, it's simply a bird problem, but if it mutates, we're in trouble. It's the potential of the problem that's worrying.
meh, il still take my chances. nothing the ghostbusters can't handle :D

my junk food of choice is big mac and/or subway so dodgy chicken wont affect me

I haven't heard one person ever mention that they or others should stop eating chicken. So I mean, what's the point of asking something that no one has been asked to do yet? Yeah, I still eat chicken, it's the easiest meat to cook (can go with anything), one of the healthiest, and it tastes good.

But I can't believe you guys are Pimping KFC. Yuck! Popeye's is where it's at. I don't know how anyone could ever eat KFC after one bite of Popeye's amazing chicken.

popeye's chicken is freaking awesome (H)

Church's Chicken and KFC can f*ck off those fake making chicken bastards mess with the chicken I tell you. But seriously I love chicken but not as much as I love WHITE CASTLE....(it sucks that they don't have it in Florida....Krystals is a fake wannabe White Castle they are horrible)

Ofcourse I still eat chicken. I love meat and they say you can't get infected by eating only by touching it.

Haven't you been following the news?

Chicken sales in Malaysia down after bird flu outbreak, official says

I don't normally watch Oprah's show, and for good reason. But I caught one of her 'specials' the other day about bird flu, she brought in a so-called expert to teach Americans about the dangers posed by the new disease. The guy kept banging on about how this is going to become a worldwide epidemic which would claim thousands of lives, crash the global economy, and become a bigger issue than terrorism and global warming.

Expert: It is a flu virus that has mutated from affecting only birds to one that can infect both birds and humans. That's when we see a pandemic, or a worldwide epidemic, and that's what we worry about.

Oprah: So you don't think the people going out and buying up duct tape and medicine are exaggerating the risks a little?

Expert: Not at all, when the epidemic breaks out it will be very difficult to find all those things. People should have five weeks of food and medicine stockpiled as early as possible, as well as chlorine for purifying water.

This is not a probability issue, it's going to happen. What we don't know is which strain it's going to be or when it's going to happen. It could be tonight. It could be 10 years from now. The bottom line is we have a lot to do to get better prepared.

People have to understand that this is not science fiction, Pandemics are going to happen. This is why a group of infectious disease experts are trying to wake the world up, shake them and say, 'You've got to understand this. Even if the bird flu isn't the one that does it, another one's going to.'
Unfortunately most governments do not realise this and do not consider this to be a major priority at the current time.

Oprah: Do you know what that's like? that's like when the government refused to offer enough money to shore up the levees in New Orleans (she repeats this another 2 or 3 times during the show)

Expert: This epidemic will quickly spread all over the world and the vaccines we have now are useless to stop it, and we will not be able to make enough effective vaccines in time to save everyone, thousands and possibly millions of people are going to die.

Oprah: So do you feel like Noah having to warn people and build the arc before the flood comes?

Expert: Yes except I'm not not building the arc myself I'm telling others to build it for me.

Man I felt sorry for the people in the audience, some of them looked like they were about to pass out, like they'd just seen Dick Cheney naked or something. Poor suckers.

A giant crippled “chicken” will repeatedly cross the road in front of a Bakersfield KFC

Bakersfield, Calif. — A giant crippled “chicken” will repeatedly cross the road in front of a local KFC to lead a protest against the company’s abusive treatment of chickens. Other PETA members will distribute leaflets to passersby, and one activist will wear a body screen TV showing shocking video footage of factory-farming abuse.

An undercover investigation at a KFC “Supplier of the Year” slaughterhouse in Moorefield, W.Va., revealed that workers were stomping on live birds, tearing their heads off, spitting tobacco in their eyes, and spray-painting their faces
.
.
“KFC stands for cruelty in our book,” says PETA Director of Vegan Campaigns Bruce Friedrich. “If KFC employees abused cats or dogs the way they abuse chickens, they could be thrown into prison on felony charges of cruelty to animals.”

Yes, my Dad who is originally hypertensive, was really worried after watching this "special"...

I kept telling him that Oprah is a publicist, a mass media personell. Her main goal is to make every show "shocking" and "mind-grabbing", regardless of the contents. When people say "Wow did u watch Oprah's special?"... that's when she succeeds... Not that she's evil or anything, but that just her line of business. The whole industry of mass media.

Oprah's really good at her social problems specials... but when it comes to scientific specials... they are really off-track.

Like the time when she brought one of her regulars; a doctor (actually a surgeon) who recommended everyone an Asprin a day... to "protect against Heart disease" and "delay aging!" Well... let's just say that Chronic Renal failure will be next decade's killer in the USA...

it has be proven that if the chicken is cooked well you won't get the disease even if it was infected with H5N1.

so I doubt there'd be a problem with the fast food chicken (KFC, popeyes, church's etc)

they deep fry everything.
