Ehh, I see you have to stake 275 to win 100. Not great, although those do seem pretty good for something that seems so likely. If you say that Bolt and Powell aren't 100% maybe it's more likely, although I don't think Powell was involved in the current WR.

Yeah I guess, i'm probably just really used to seeing 1.01 and 1.05 for quite a few of the AFL teams here it doesn't really carry over

The odds on the Mens 100 are **** aswell... both Bolt and Blake are less than evens....... no way should two runners in the same race be less than evens, odds of less than evens imply almost certainty of winning, two different runners cannot both be almost certain to win the same race. Bookies are crooks.

Yep. I was using the NFL wins futures for something else, and according to them the average team will have a record of 8.25 wins and 7.75 losses this year. Cheats. Although the 100m odds seem much more crooked.

Anyway...... I do think the olympic cauldron was absolutely spectacular....... definitely a triumph of the opening ceremony...

For those of you that didnt watch it is made up over over 200 little vases, one for each of the countries competing, brought in with each of the teams on the athletes procession:

And then it folded up like this:

Cool. In the US they didn't show the tribute to 7/7, instead preferring a retarded Ryan Seacrest interview with Michael Phelps. Terrorism only happens to us!

Was watching the replay at work, out of boredom. Did look cool, but where is it now? Usually the flame keeps going til the games end but it surely can't stay there for the rest of it.

Ha! We did have one one but two moments of remembrance in the ceremony which I thought was quite nice.

I'm curious as to what you foreigners think of the olympic park? I mean obviously it has nothing like the birdsnest of beijing aquatic centre, but dont you think it does have quite a sleek but also friendly look about it? Also there are some superb pieces of understated architecture I think, I think the velodrome is a wonderful building and the inside of the aquatics centre, designed by Zaha Hadid who is definitely one of my favourite architects on the planet right now, I think is absolutely excellent.

You know I actually dont know, but I do know that at the end of the games it will be dismantled and each country will get back the vase that they carried into the games to take back to their sports museums or whatever which I think is a really nice touch.

What is the record that Phelps gets if he manages to pick up 3 golds in this olympics? Isnt it something like most gold medals OF ALL TIME? If so it will be a tragedy if he blows it, considering he seems to average something like 7 per games normally....

I actually wouldnt mind if Bolt doesn't quite hit it this time...... as much as I love watching him blitz the pack and set record after record, a competitive race between four runners who at any other time would easily have each been the best in the world if it wasnt for each other is also quite a pleasant prospect......

Yeah, but Phelps smokes marijuana. Jamaicans never do that (H)

Phelps already has the record for gold medals with 14; that's 5 better than second place. He's 2 behind Larisa Latynina (Soviet gymnast from 56-64) for total medals (18 to 16), so he only needs bronzes. I wonder if he's in any relays. Either way, he has 2 butterfly events, which have always been his strongest, and the 200 IM. I saw an interview that he said he felt good after 200 today, but it fell to **** after that. I'd say 3 bronzes is very possible.

I feel like I'm the only person in the world that could give a flying **** about the olympics (sans soccer, obviously... maybe basketball).

I'm not really watching either (doesn't help that NBC does everything on tape delay, hours after it has been put on the ESPN.com front page), but the summer Olympics is fun. Track is exciting for sure.
