What a stupid move by the Turkish FA.
Ersun Yanal may have had a bad start. But COME ON. This is the stupidest time to change a manager. Anyone who understands the tactical sense of the game can CLEARLY see that Turkey has morphed into an Attacking Posessional team. This transformation fits our team best, because Turkish Defense is still relatively weak, albeit with good defenders like Tolga and Ibrahim Toraman. But when you have people like, Nihat, Emre, Fatih Tekke, Tuncay, Hamit Altintop, Gokdeniz Karadeniz, all of which (except emre) play forwards and attacking mids, he opted for the best choice. TURKIYE NEEDED A HAUL OF THE OLD WORLD CUP TEAM. DO NOT DENY THIS. WE WERE FINISHED WITH THE TEAM AFTER LATVIA. Although i STRONGLY disagree with Yanal dropping Sukur, the rest of the team, is probably the best we have, and I loved it. The style was exciting, we attack a lot, set up nice plays. But he made a mistake in the greece game, he used a style were crossing was the main tactic for getting goals. But everyone makes mistakes, at least this mistake didnt cost us the game. We tied it. We're in SECOND now, there is no reason why we shouldn't be continuing with him. This is by far the dumbest move i've seen by the Turkish FA. Dumbest move. This whole decision could NOT have been because of Hakan, because. Guys, lets face it. We have to start relying on the younger players. Ersun Yanal introduced a totally new way Turkish National football was being played. He brought up players, whom some of us, and don't lie to yourselves, were brought up and surprised us all. I never thought Hamit would adapt to the Senior level so quickly, but Ersun did. And it works. Hamit is one of the best Turkish wingers out there now. Where was Fatih Tekke before Yanal was here? I never saw him, in Fact, Gunes brought up Okan Yilmaz for the confederations cup instead of him if you remember. Huseyin Cimsir, I knew about him, but never saw him before Yanal came, and Cimsir is a great stopper. I remember Cimsir since 99 when he was on Trabzonspor. But that's all i remember of him. i dont remember him being called up for euro 2000 or euro2004 or world cup? Yanal brought him. Halil Altintop, Ibrahim Toraman (Another very young call up), Tolga Seyhan, Tuncay started to get more playing time under Yanal. Yanal had good set pieces, i loved how he instructed the players to put in the ball hard and low, because it's smart. We didnt have any tall guys, so take the chance and see deflections off the crowded box. I dont know why everyone is celebrating. We probably have the hardest group in all of UEFA. We have Greece (*sigh* i hate to say it, but Euro Champs), Denmark (Good team, was at euro and caused problems for everyone) we have Ukraine, who has shown they have a great team by being so high in the group. so we have 3 difficult teams, and the top 2 go in. Give me a break. 2nd place is fine with me. You all cannot realistically expect us to be in first place. You cannot. Put your pride away for a second, and really look at the group. 2nd place i was expecting, 1rst would've been a gift, but i wasn't going to be surprised if we were third at this time round. and remember, we got into the World Cup and euro 2000 i believe through Playoff. So why not World cup 2006????? who cares how we get there, let's just get there. Cause qualifying means SH!T once your in the tournament. At the moment, Ersun was taking us there, and we're really blowing the team by getting rid of him. If Terim takes over, in the long run maybe i see success, but you cannot expect a young team like this to adapt a new style and still play well and win the last 3-4 games, because i know we have to basically win the rest.
god...the team was playing just superb lately. I can't believe we are celebrating this.
