I just have Microsoft Security Essentials and AVG Free, does the job well enough, can't remember having any problem with any kind of virus except one but that was because I tried to download an Office 2010 unlocker from a dodgy site And both of them detected it and I cleaned it right up.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials as well, seems good so far. It came out as winner in a test I read a few days ago too, where AVG Free came last.

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is very good.

Now, as far as your question goes, MSE comes with Windows Defender (spyware protection) so you do not need to download any additional software.
