Those Liverpool FC supporters who believe in lucky omens will have greeted the draw for the first knockout round with enthusiasm. On the three previous occasions they have faced SL Benfica, Liverpool have always come out on top and each time have gone on to reach the final. However, the Portuguese champions can take comfort from having already defeated English opposition in this year's competition in the form of 1999 winners Manchester United FC.

Based on our recent performances, things aren't looking good for us.. then again, we weren't playing so hot and were injury plagued when we faced Man Utd, yet we still manged to pull a win out of our asses....so who knows?

and? the strategy for this game is completely different and Benfica has less responsabilities on this game. if we beat Man United we could beat Liverpool. at least we are playing among the european elite and this is not a worst thing.

I think one of the reasons why Benfica has been crap lately is precisely this game right here. It is a huge match that can decide a couple careers (namely Simão's fate) so I am quite positive it has been on their minds lately.

As if Benfica is "underestimating" Liverpool in any way, shape, or form Like we don't know we're heavy underdogs going into this game, or any other game at this stage of the CL for that matter. I swear, everyday I read something just a wee bit more retarded in these forums...
