This may seem odd, but how do you sub?

How do you make substitutions? I've never seen one in a match, and i've only now decided i wanted to make one, but i can't figure out how. Seems like a really strange thing to leave out of a game...

I can't really remember because it's been months since the last time I played, but you sub them by selecting the player you want to sub out (selecting his "circle") and then selecting the subs' circle.. not really hard, though I can't remember where exactly you go to do that....

I've seen a screen where you can click a circle of a player and click his sub, but that screen is in the roster management section, and i can't access that screen during a match.

There seems to be no in-match menu option to get to some sort of substitution screen.

I'm absolutely sure there is, having made plenty of subs during the time I played the game (a week or so)... can't remember if it's esc you press or another key, though...
